What is my job: 

To provide medical case management for selected lost time and medical only Workers’ Compensation and short-term disability cases and to ensure appropriate quality medical care, maximum medical improvement and timely return to work for injured employees.  To act as a medical resource to the Division and others throughout the company on disability and other employee well-being related matters.

 

How do I make a difference? 

Providing Incredible, Knowledge Based Service

  • Deliver exceptional customer service by advocating for the employees and the company through effective verbal and written communication; promote wellness
  • Facilitate appropriate, timely medical care; advocate for and assist injured worker with achieving maximum medical improvement and/or full duty return to work as soon as it is medically safe
  • Partner with division to administer the Continued Employment Policy; assist HR with administration of FMLA and maintain the medical certification records for FMLA

 

Continuously Improving Results

  • Coordinate monitor and evaluate restrictions for transitional duty including the SK001 account for the division
  • Assist adjusters with authorization of medical procedures and treatment; make recommendations to claims adjusters regarding FCE’s and IME’s when appropriate
  • Follow ‘Claims Handling Best Practices’ in administration of all required claim activity and documentation of same
  • Follow all local, state and federal laws (e.g. FMLA, ADA, Workers’ Compensation) and Wegmans Policies and Work Rules; comply with national case management standards as well as nursing code of conduct
  • Collaborate with Compliance and Legal departments on decision making for complex or unusual cases or circumstances.
  • Monitor occupational injury and safety trends and make appropriate referrals; participate in division safety and well-being team meetings
  • Use observational skills and knowledge of Ergonomics to determine when changes can be made to improve comfort, safety, and ease of performance of job tasks.  Make referrals to Ergonomist when appropriate

What skills, learning’s, and experiences are required?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 5 years clinical nursing experience as a Registered Professional Nurse - Current Licensure in Maryland
  • 3 years of case management experience; working knowledge of Workers’ Compensation, Disability, FMLA, ADA and Managed Care
  • Strong Computer Skills (Microsoft Office- Word/Excel)
  • Possess strong listening skills and hear many points of view without bias, asking clarifying questions to check for understanding
  • Use available resources to pursue goals and challenges with the intent of achieving results, striving for continued excellence and taking appropriate risks (Managing the 5 Measures)
  • Effectively deal with ambiguity, handling risk and uncertainty with comfort, maintaining effectiveness in the face of change and acting on decisions without having the total picture
  • Coming up with new, unique ideas using creative thinking while making connections among previously unrelated notions
  • Cross-functional collaboration: initiate dialogue around different points-of-view to find a common ground; lead interdepartmental teams, facilitating organizational consensus and creating synergies to arrive at the best business outcome

  • Experience with project coordination, communicating goals and responsibilities to the team being sure to monitor performance against a project plan and effectively applying project controls. Include project stakeholders, team members, and subject matter experts in order to get things done
  • Experience with risk evaluation: proactively identifying areas of potential risk exposure, thoroughly analyzing the situation to ensure the financial investment of a solution makes sense and implementing cost-effective controls to mitigate risk

What skills, learning’s, and experiences are preferred and will set me apart? 

  • CCM (Certified Case Manager) or COHN (Certified Occupational Health Nurse). If not currently certified in either, must be willing to obtain CCM within 24 months

 

Work environment: 

  • Works involves continuous interaction with co-workers in fast-paced environment
  • Work includes sitting for prolonged periods, along with repetitive hand and arm movements
  • Work requires frequent use of the telephone and computer
  • Responsible for moving and lifting an average of 1 – 5 pounds with a maximum weight lifted of 10 pounds occasionally
