What is my job:

To coordinate assigned projects throughout the five project phases including initiate, plan, develop, implement and evaluate. To assist with the identification, development and implementation of continuous improvements to ensure business requirements are met. In addition this role will assist in the analysis, development and interpretation of financial data to improve Perishables, Prepared Foods and Restaurant profitability and Priority Reporting.

  • Document financial and system requirements for new systems and enhanced applications to support company priorities
  • Prepare, write, maintain and organize necessary data to create or revise process workflow procedures, manuals and training guides
  • Develop project plans to include objectives, milestones, resources, and timeframes
  • Create concise, accurate and complete documentation of current process and failure points related to existing systems
  • Develop, document and execute certification plans to ensure product is working as designed
  • Assist in the evaluation of products and service offerings to determine suitability for implementation at Wegmans
  • Create and present information relevant to decision making
  • Work closely with other project team members, systems programmers and/or vendors to meet milestone deadlines, stay within budget and ensure product meets requirements
  • Coordinate the generation of reports with the IT department to capture the data needed to perform the LIFO analysis
  • Perform quarterly and year-end analysis substantiating accuracy; identify causes of variances and communicate results to upper management
  • Actively seek opportunities for continuous improvement in gathering and analyzing LIFO data
  • Prepare reports needed to support the UNICAP calculation
  •  Identify improvement areas and provide proactive recommendations to improve profitability
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial analysis as well as the reporting and interpretation of Perishables and Prepared Foods departments, including account reconciliations and department communications
  • Research, analyze and identify the causes of variances and recommends ways to improve profitability and partner with other business units as needed

  • Coordinate activities with the IT department, Merchandising offices, CIS and other business units and/or vendors to facilitate implementation of projects
  • Prepare and provide clear and concise updates on project status and keeps project teams and key stakeholders well informed
  • Actively support the Perishables, Prepared Foods and Restaurant business and Priority Reporting

What skills, learnings, and experiences are required?

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent work experience
  • 2 or more years of Technical Accounting experience with a solid understanding of how to influence cost structure and profitability
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • 1 or more years of experience working with the LIFO inventory valuation method
  • Advanced PC skills including MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) 
  • MS Access, MS Project
  • Strong Systems Experience
  • Store and/or Retail experience working in either the Perishable or Prepared departments
  • Possess strong listening skills and hear many points of view without bias, asking clarifying questions to check for understanding
  • Use available resources to pursue goals and challenges with the intent of achieving results, striving for continued excellence and taking appropriate risks (Managing the 5 Measures)
  • Effectively deal with ambiguity, handling risk and uncertainty with comfort, maintaining effectiveness in the face of change and acting on decisions without having the total picture

  • Experience with risk evaluation: proactively identifying areas of potential risk exposure, thoroughly analyzing the situation to ensure the financial investment of a solution makes sense and implementing cost-effective controls to mitigate risk
