Overnight Operations Manager

Days Hours Req: Candidate needs to be available Sunday through Saturday between the hours 8pm to 8am. Weekend and holiday availability is required. Candidate must have overnight availability. Schedule: Full-time

A glimpse at the job:

At Wegmans, our Grocery department is the largest area of the store, housing all the products customers need to complete their meals and stock their homes with essentials. In the role of Grocery Manager, you’ll use strong managerial and leadership skills to ensure the overall success of the department. With a keen eye for merchandising and a passion for putting out the best products, you’ll control everything from department financials to product levels to ensuring each employee is working to meet customer and store needs.

I will add value by:

  • Overseeing the entire operations of the Grocery department, being responsible for sales, contribution (profit), retention, diversity and development as well as interviewing, selecting and arranging training of new team members
  • Delegating tasks to team leaders, supervising their actions to ensure the department is operating in the most efficient manner possible, being sure to provide timely performance feedback
  • Setting individual goals with team members and completing annual performance reviews to help employees grow and develop professionally
  • Using knowledge of product and customer trends to plan displays and merchandise products, working with department managers across the store to cross-merchandise products, highlight Menu magazine features, promote WOW and Big 5 items and drive sales throughout the store
  • Spending time on the sales floor assisting customers and working hands-on with employees, ensuring they have the resources and knowledge to provide incredible customer service and succeed in their roles 
  • Working with outside vendors, overseeing product levels and displays as well as approving requests to introduce new products in the department, using past experience and knowledge to make educated decisions
  • Working with the Store Manager, Merchandising Area Manager and Overnight Grocery Manager as well as team leaders and team members to ensure that company goals are being met, visions are implemented and the entire department is operating efficiently
  • Implementing new programs and products, creating excitement in the department amongst both customers and employees by breaking down knowledge barriers and educating team members
  • Benchmarking to ensure Wegmans is staying ahead of the competition and providing customers with innovative displays that drive sales in the department
  • Analyzing financial reports and grocery product trends and reacting with the aim of increasing profitability in the department
  • Handling any problems that arise throughout the department, including any personnel issues or concerns with product, vendors, etc.
  • Ensuring employees are complying with all Wegmans standards and policies

  • Separate and combine tasks into an effective workflow by maximizing resources and providing assistance when needed and supervise output ensuring standards are adhered to
  • Possess strong listening skills and hear many points of view without bias, asking clarifying questions to check for understanding.

Work environment:
  • Work involves continuous interactions with customers and co-workers in a fast-paced environment
  • Typical motions include repetitive hand and arm movements, bending and reaching
  • Required to move or lift an average of 8 – 32 pounds with a maximum weight lifted of greater than 50 pounds occasionally

  • Will be required to spend the majority of time on his or her feet and stand or walk without a break for up to 4 hours
