Coordinator of Benefits and Wellness

Connecticut College is conducting a regional search for a professional and well-organized individual to implement the College’s employee benefit programs, policies and procedures, ensuring eligible employees are aware of and take advantage of the benefits programs available to them. Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Employee Benefits, s/he will serve as the campus wellness program coordinator by promoting healthy living through the development and offering of wellness-related trainings and events to faculty, staff and their dependents. In addition, s/he will also help plan and coordinate the annual staff service recognition ceremony. As an integral member of the HR team, the coordinator will support the day to day functions of the office and provide quality customer service to campus employees and visitors. This is a part time (20 hours/week, full year), benefits-eligible position.

The Coordinator of Benefits and Wellness will be responsible for communicating the benefit programs the College offers to prospective employees, current employees and retirees; work with the benefit providers to resolve issues and respond to questions; maintain and distribute employee benefit enrollment plan information using current technologies (College’s website); process all employee benefit enrollments, benefit terminations and changes; data entry of deductions and all benefit related information in the College’s HRIS (Human Resources Information System) and related filing systems.  The Coordinator will also distribute and process Family Medical Leave (FML) requests including, but not limited to obtaining all necessary documentation, communicating leave status to employees and their supervisors, recording leaves in College’s FML tracking system, maintaining files, and preparing reports as needed; plan and coordinate the annual staff service recognition ceremony including identifying honorees, distributing invitations, reserving event space, engaging catering and planning the menu, obtaining and gift-wrapping awards, coordinating honoree photograph, and preparing the list of honorees; stay informed of new trends, developments, laws and regulations related to the administration of benefits; Co-Coordinate or Back up “all campus events” and communicate events to employees, including, but not limited to the Staff Picnic, Holiday Lunch, New Employee Breakfast and employee award receptions;  coordinate and conduct employee/retiree education programs such as benefits fair, pre-retirement workshop, and retirement planning workshops; provide support to the office: coverage of phones, mail processing, greeting visitors and supervising student workers as needed; other duties as assigned.

Associates Degree with a minimum of two years of relevant experience required; HR professional certification and 4 plus years of current benefits administration experience preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills; knowledge of federal, state and local employment laws (ERISA, FML and ACA) preferred; must have excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to build and sustain strong relationships with all levels of the College Community and benefits providers; high integrity needed to handle confidential information and be well-organized, able to work under pressure, plan and accomplish goals and meet deadlines.
