Job Description Responsible for assisting in and, at times leading, the preparation of financial statements that follow all regulatory and accounting guidelines under the supervision of the VP of Finance. Further responsible for identifying and preventing discrepancies and helping set up control systems. The assistant controller must be an organized professional with a great eye for detail and reliable to carry out tasks autonomously and collaboratively. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Manages leads and directs the accountants responsible for the preparation of the financial statements, supporting subsidiary schedules and accounting operations. Assists in and, at times leading, the preparation of consolidated financial statements in compliance with company guidelines and requirements. Management of all aspects of the general ledger and insightful review of the company's accounting information to identify and resolve inaccuracies, imbalances, or opportunities for improvement. Coordinates and assists with the month-end closing process for multiple general ledgers determining that all journal entries have been posted, accounts reconciled, and checklists completed as scheduled. Analyzes actual results vs. budgeted results on a monthly basis and explains any variances by using general ledger queries or contacting business managers to discuss and resolve. Assists in the formulation of internal controls and policies to ensure best practices. Ensure the financial records are in compliance with regulations and in-house standards. Analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, and prepares balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected company financial position for other managers. Make recommendations regarding the accounting of reserves, assets, and expenditures. Qualifications: Education: Must have a bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting Experience: At least 4 to 5 years experience including: Experience in public/private accounting Experience in Audits Experience in preparation or management of the general ledger and financial statements reporting Competencies: Proficient in Excel, Word, Powerpoint and Outlook, with an emphasis on the use of Excel. The ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing across the organization will be weighed heavily. Needs to have above average communication skills. This individual must be tactful, confident & skilled in their ability to resolve issues Strong interpersonal skills are needed. Attention to detail with an ability to spot numerical errors. Solid knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulations. Licenses/Certifications Required: CPA required Supervisory Responsibilities: This position will have supervisory responsibilities.
