Department Summary:

The Department of Meetings & Expositions (DMES) is the Society's primary resource in professional meeting planning and the guiding division of ACS-sponsored and co-sponsored meetings. The underlying impetus for each meeting is to advance the value of chemistry in everyday life. The attedee group for each meeting is as diverse as the meeting topics. Through its biannual national meetings, strategically located regional meetings, and topic-focused specialty meetings, DMES helps to promote the ACS mission, "Advancing the broader chemistry enterprise and its practitioners for the benefrt of Earth and its people."

Position Summary:

The Meeting Planner Intern will assist the DMES team in the completion of activities for upcoming national, regional, and speciality meetings that will contribute to their success. Focus will be on meeting logistics, data management, exposition services, and development of promotional and resource content for staff and meeting attendees. A successful intern will have strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, with an appreciation for deadlines, flexibility, and collaboration.

Primary Responsibilities:

ACS-sponsored and co-sponsored meetings afford chemists of varying stages of proficiency to grow their passion for chemistry, advance their career, and expand their professional network. Our meetings are opportunities for ACS members and non-members to connect and share ideas with thousands of chemical professionals from around the world. The intern will asist the staff to ensure that DMES achieves its objectives effeciently and seamlessly.

The Meeting Planner Intern will provide meeting support as assigned, as well as pitch in on all tasks as needed across the DMES scope of work.

* Data entry in and review and management of DMES technical platforms:
* A1 (Attendee Interactive) for meeting planning, includding room assignments, logistics, and F&B details
* A2z for expo hall activities
* CoreApps for mobile app services
* CVent for meeting registration

* Colect information and prepare promotional/resource content for Fall 2020 National Meeting
* C&EN Meeting Insider
* Staff Handbook
* Kick-Off-Rally

* Assist with pre-planning of future national, regional, and specilality meeting.

Education Requirements:

The ideal candidate will be going into their junior or senior year of college, pursuing a degree in Event Planning, Hospitality, Management, Marketing, or Communications.

Required Qualifications:

* DMES is a fast-paced, high-volume department, particularly during the summer months leading up to the Fall National Meeting. Completion of assignments in a timely and efficient manner shape team success. An effective Meeting Planner Intern must have consistent level of commitment for completing all work, whether it is rudimentary or challenging.
* Marketing and Communications with:
* Working knowledge of meeting planning
* Excellent written and oral communication skills
* Equal success working individually or as part of a team
* Attention to details and deadlines

* Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat and MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
* Aptitude to grasp new technical program effectively in real time
* At east working with individuals of varied profession and level of responsibility
