The Office of Financial Aid Services is looking for: Financial Aid Specialist I
MSU Financial Aid is looking for motivated, customer service-oriented team-players who are interested in a great opportunity to support and assist students through the various financial aid processes. Previous financial aid experience beneficial, but not required. This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to work with students, higher education, and learn about financial aid. Financial Aid Specialist I are vital in helping students towards completing their degree program through comprehensive advising regarding a variety of available financial programs.
Excellent health care benefits, retirement plan, and half-time resident tuition waiver benefit. Position works Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, with the occasional opportunity for overtime dependent on office needs.

Duties and Responsibilities
Under the general supervision of the Assistant Directors, the person in this position assists in the administration of student aid programs and activities. The person in this position will:

Have an active role in the office phone schedule and facilitate student walk-ins.
Disseminate accurate information and effectively communicates with students, parents, university employees, and outside agencies verbally and in writing; provides a high level of customer service.
Apply federal, state, and institutional policies and procedures to determine aid eligibility and to ensure correct and timely aid processing.
Review a wide variety of aid appeals as a member of the Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeals Committee.
Adjust awards, verification processing, and loan appeals; review summer applications.
Document processing.
Compile, interpret, and format program data.
Provide general support to the Assistant Directors, as needed in completing compliance tasks and reports and meeting project deadlines.
Assist with management of the federal workstudy program.
Perform related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

Progressively responsible administrative work experience with an emphasis on customer service in a main office setting or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
Demonstrated experience providing accurate and appropriate responses to questions and inquiries in person, over the phone, and through written correspondence while performing detailed work with a high a level of accuracy.
Demonstrated experience using computers for performing data entry while also organizing and prioritizing multiple workloads, meeting deadlines, and exercising adaptability to changing priorities while accurately following policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

Experience in a higher education environment.
Knowledge of the principles and purposes of financial aid programs.
Experience with relational databases, spreadsheets, & word processing
Two to four-year college degree related to business administration or equivalent experience desired.
