Job Description

The primary purpose of the Accountant I is to support the research finance team within the Department of Radiation Oncology. The Accountant I impacts the administration, operations and compliance of a major academic department in accounting and fiscal management.

KEY JOB FUNCTIONS

Reconciliation

* Monitors budgets and account balances for the department and its related programmatic areas and reconciles expenditures in compliance with institutional, State and Federal guidelines.


* Maintains compliance with institutional and state guidelines including those which address purchasing, check requests, travel, and other fiscal activities.


* Ensures timely and accurate expense and income tracking for all E&G, PRS, grant, contract and philanthropic company centers.


* Reconciles departmental grants and contracts of more than $10 million annually, in compliance with funding agencies, institution, state, and federal guidelines.



Research Finance Support

* Facilitates new account set up.


* Monitors funding, clinical research billing to sponsors and account balances.


* Projects expense allocation.


* Monitors and supports allocation of personnel and non-personnel transactions to appropriate accounts.


* Prepares expense correction requests.



Financial Performance and Reporting

* Provides accounting-based expert knowledge and guidance in preparing routine and periodic financial reports, cost reports, and data for special projects as required.


* Builds formulas, pivot tables, graphing and other data models as required.



Billing and Compliance

* Works with Financial Analyst, management and relevant staff to ensure clinical trials are invoiced accurately and timely, demonstrating understanding of study reconciliation and invoicing.


* Works directly with Clinical Research Finance and Grants and Contracts to resolve any conflicts and to stay abreast of any changes affecting same.


* Assists in preparing clinical research reporting.



QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Required: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting or related.

Experience

Required: One year of experience required with degree in Business Administration or related field.

With a degree in Accounting, no experience is required.

May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.
