Job Description

Job title: Director 

Broad Description: To oversee, direct and develop the programs of the Shepherd’s Center of Topeka (SCT). SCT is a community ministry sponsored by over 20 congregations and supported by over 20 community partners. SCT is open to people of all faiths, as well as those without a church affiliation, with the only requirement being that members must be 55 years or older. SCT's capstone program ‘Adventures in Learning’ is hosted four months of the year. Additionally, participants can engage in different group activities occurring on a regularly scheduled basis throughout each month, and hosted at sponsoring congregations or community partners. 

Shepherd's Center is operated by members who volunteer their time and talent under the guidance of the Director. Our mission is serving the people we walk beside, helping members to remain active, continually exercising, both mentally and physically, growing spiritually, and staying involved in our community. Participating in classes and activities is essential to building relationships and strengthens this social ministry.

Description of Responsibilities

  1. Develop programs with Board approval

  2. Lead the various teams involved with Adventures of Learning

  3. Communicate with the membership through printed newsletters and various electronic media

  4. Oversee the various groups activities and social events

  5. Maintain and strengthen relationships with members, community and church partners

  6. Cultivate new members, communities partners and sponsoring congregations

  7. Attend community meetings/events to promote Shepherd’s Center of Topeka
