Job Description


The San Diego Unified School District accepts applications for Special Education Teachers and Related Services Providers on a continuous basis for regular full-time and part-time assignments. This is a continuous recruitment which will be used to establish an ongoing eligibility list. Candidates that do not wish to be considered for regular full-time/part-time positions should apply to the substitute teacher or 30-Day Permit pool to be considered for temporary assignments.

Credential areas considered for this pool are:

* Early Childhood Special Education
* Adaptive PE
* Mild/Moderate
* Moderate/Severe
* Medically Fragile (MF)
* Visually Impaired (VI)
* Other Health Impairment (OHI)
* Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH)
* School Psychologist
* Speech Language Pathologist
* Any other special education teaching or non-classroom position

This pool is for individuals who:

* hold a valid teaching credentials, or
* are enrolled in a college/university to attain a teaching credential, or
* are intern eligible through their college or university, or
* are eligible for a short-term staffing permit (see CCTC requirements).

* Candidates eligible for a credential may be considered. Please reference the State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing website for details (click here to view).

Salary Information

School Psychologists' salary scale ranges from $78,459.35 to $111,009.21

Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists' salary scale ranges from $66,845.78 to $94,562.44 Supplemental Information

Application Process:

To be eligible for consideration, interested candidates must submit the following:

* On-line employment application
* Response to the supplemental questionnaire
* Cover letter and resume
* A copy of a valid teaching credential, proof of enrollment in a credentialing program (candidates must be scheduled to graduate within 6 months), proof of intern eligibility, or proof of short-term staffing permit eligibility.
* Contact information for three professional references must be listed under the 'References' section of the application. References should be from a current or previous supervisor.
* A copy of written reference letters within the last two years is desirable.

Required documents must be attached to the online employment application to be considered. The supplemental questions should be answered thoroughly, clearly and concisely as the responses provided (along with the entire application package) will be carefully reviewed to determine which candidates will move forward in the recruitment process. Please complete the online application to include all current and previous paid work history and education. Indicate on the application if you have unpaid volunteer or internship experience. The length of time you worked in each position or assignment must be clearly shown. A resume must be attached, but it does not substitute for completing the work history and education sections of the employment application.

Examination Process

The examination process will consist of an application screening based on the candidate's education, work history and responses to the supplemental questions. Professional References will be contacted for candidates who are selected to proceed in the examination process. Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination. Candidates selected to proceed in the examination process will be invited to an interview. Applicants who pass the examination process will be placed on an eligible list for a period of one year. The eligible list will be used to fill vacancies at various school sites.
