Title: Director of Communications and Development Department: Communication & Development Division: Administration Status: Exempt SUMMARY OF WORK PERFORMED: DEVELOPMENT: The mission/purpose of the Director of Communications and Development is to obtain financial support for Sierra Vista Child & Family Services through major giving, planned giving programs, capital campaign projects, events and community outreach. COMMUNICATIONS: Increase awareness of Sierra Vista Child & Family Services programs through community newsletter, newspaper articles, agency publications, radio and television spots, social media, speaking engagements and other community activities Education and Experience Required: 1. College degree in related field preferred. 2. 3 to 5 years non-profit communications, development, and public relations experience. 3. Grant writing experience preferred 4. Three years hands-on special event planning and supervision experience. 5. Ability to motivate and lead development campaigns, volunteers, committees, executives, staff, community representatives and leaders to reach fundraising goals. 6. Possess professional presence, training and presentation commensurate with duties and responsibilities of the position. 7. Multi-Media Publications and social media experience. Qualifications: 1. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills required. 2. Strong attention to detail and ability to write, edit copy and proofread written materials proficiently. 3. Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel; knowledge of PowerPoint, knowledge of fundraising databases. 4. Strong organizational, supervisory and administrative skills. 5. Outstanding interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop and sustain trusted relationships with new potential supporters, colleagues and funders. 6. Must possess good judgment and a high sense of urgency and follow through. 7. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and highly skilled in conveying sensitive information. 8. Sound personal qualifications (i.e. maturity, stability, high moral standards and sound mental health). 9. Must possess a valid California drivers license with no more than two minor moving violations. Essential Job Functions: 1. Obtain financial support through major giving, planned giving programs, capital campaign projects and community outreach. 2. Oversees management of all fundraising activities including prospect research, annual giving, direct mail campaigns, and special events. 2. Assist Chief Executive Officer with building comprehensive fundraising programs in the community, including peer to peer, event, online, memorial, annual and major planned giving programs. 3. Lead the development of a Capital Campaign/Major Fund or other giving programs to support agency goals and objectives. 4. Initiate contacts and develop independently, and with appropriate staff, strategies for identifying, evaluating, cultivating, and solicitating donor prospects. 5. Identify and cultivate opportunities to grow advocates for the agency, event participants and volunteers into major donors. 6. Increase and maintain a portfolio of donor prospects, with a particular focus on unrestricted gifts and event sponsorships from corporations, individuals, and foundations to achieve individual and team revenue goals and increase community support. 7. Partner with leadership to support regional volunteer leadership councils, to prepare fundraising support materials, presentations, and general correspondence with great attention to detail. 8. Oversees management of donor base analytics, accurate donor contact information and prompt acknowledgment of donations systems. 9. Track progress, tactics, and financial reports to measure success. 10. Attend Administrative and Board of Director Meetings to communicate development activities. 11. Educates Board members, administration, staff, and volunteers about their roles in fundraising. 12. Assist on an as-needed basis with the writing and development of grant writing projects. Communications 1. Develop relationships with news media contacts including radio and television to generate awareness and interest for the services of Sierra Vista Child & Family Services. 2. Coordinate/facilitate radio and television Public Service Announcements. 3. Partner with leadership to identify and cultivate new ambassadors for the purpose of expanding fundraising base. 4. Oversees development of communications, including newsletters, annual reports, brochures, website, social media, appeal letters and acknowledgments. 5. Develop Communications Plans for new and expanding Sierra Vista Programs. 6. Direct and place all advertising, communications, press releases and public relations related to special events. 7. Direct the recording and documentation of all agency events through photographs and record keeping of event information and procedures. 8. Supervise initial and follow-up agency communications and development correspondence. 9. Maintain and inventory all property belonging to Communications/Development Department (i.e., photos, recognition items, boards, easels, etc.) 10. Performs as Public Relations/Media contact and public speaking engagements as assigned. 11. Establishes agency-wide strategy to inform staff about plans, goals, and achievements of Sierra Vista Child & Family Services, and to engage staff in understanding and meeting the mission, values, and goals of the agency. 12. Establishes and ensures consistency in agency-wide style guide for logo usage, signage, electronic communications, and reviews all printed material for consistency. 13. Represents Sierra Vista Child & Family Services publicly to community leaders, civic organizations, and local businesses in the absence of the Chief Executive Officer. 14. Assist Chief Executive Officer with other fundraising, communications, and community engagement activities. 15. Supervises Communications & Development staff. Other: 1. Everyone who works in the organization has responsibilities for preventing and controlling infection. 2. Responsible for reducing the risk of injury to clients and staff. 3. Report any suspected child abuse immediately to direct supervisor or if not available to the Clinical Director. 4. Report any suspected dependent adult/elder abuse immediately to direct supervisor or if not available to the Clinical Director.
