Job Description

Concordia University, Nebraska, a Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod institution, invites applicants for the full-time faculty position of

DCE Intern Site Coordinator/DCE Faculty beginning in August, 2019.

The Human and Social Sciences Department mentors and leads students in the advancement of knowledge, abilities, and attitudes through the pursuit of a Christ-centered education in health and wellness. All students shall be given the opportunity for optimum spiritual, physical, intellectual, emotional, and social development of the gifts God has given them through instruction and participation in various movement activities and through instruction in the area of education.

Position Summary: The faculty member will enhance the University's ability to fulfill its mission of "equipping men and women for lives of learning, service and leadership in the church and world"

The individual applying for this position should have extensive experience in leading parish education ministries, ideally with children, youth and adults. He/She must have effective teaching skills and a knowledge base to learn undergraduate classes in the DCE/CEL program. He/She will facilitate the placement of DCE interns in their year-long internship experiences. Under the direction of the DCE Program Director, he/she will help administer the operations and a continuous improvement cycle for the DCE/CEL program to prepare graduates to serve as parish educational leaders in congregations.

Qualifications:

* DCE Certification (LCMS)
* Master's degree in a related discipline to DCE industry; earned doctorate preferred.
* Seven or more years of successful experience as a parish-DCE.
* Commissioned minister of religion.
* Working knowledge of LCMS policies, procedures and nomenclature.
* Knowledge of higher education practices and trends, including but not limited to curriculum and instruction.
* Knowledge of academic program and curriculum development, review and revision, demonstrated ability to employ innovative teaching methods, including use of best practices technology and online education.
* The ability and desire to be innovative in all aspects of the job.
* Sound teaching methodology.
* The use of technology (MS Office).
* Understanding of and commitment to the mission of Concordia University, Nebraska.
* An educator with integrity who has a passion for academic excellence, effective teaching and educational innovation.
* Strong interpersonal skills, including exceptional communication and collaborative team skills.
* Ability to communicate effective with diverse constituencies, including students, parents, faculty, churches and external parties.
* Willingness to travel as a significant part of the job.
* Effective teaming skills.
* An active member of a congregation of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS).

Responsibilities:

Recruitment and Retention of Students:

* Be proactive in recruitment and retention of DCE students.
* Participate in student recruitment and retention activities.
* Promote the university and the DCE program during on and off campus activities.
* Help coordinate the DCE Student Symposium event once per semester.

Internship Site Coordinator:

* Serve as primary intern site coordinator.
* Complete intern site identification visits.
* Make intern placement decisions in consultation with the DCE Program Director.
* Serve as campus contact for congregations seeking intern information.
* Coordinate the management of intern site materials.
* Oversee the collection of fees from intern sites.
* Develop intern sites when needed.

Teaching DCE/CEL Related Courses:

* Teach courses assigned by the Department Chair/Dean of the College and as approved by the Provost.
* Develop and teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses during the summer term as assigned.

General Duties:

* Attend all faculty, departmental, standing committees and ad hoc committees as assigned.
* Prepare and maintain reports and records as may be reasonably necessary for the proper performance and administration of duties.
* Respond in a timely fashion to requests from various administrative offices regarding the progress of students in classes.
* Participate in the assessment of student learning as needed by the university or individual departments.
* Develop a professional growth plan, including an annual plan for formative evaluation an a tri-annual plan for summative evaluation.
* Other duties as assigned.
