Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities
The person in this position's main responsibility is to provide backup for the supervisor and take on supervisor responsibilities in the absence of crew manager. This includes direct care of all livestock used in research at the laboratory, and to participate with any research as appropriate on said livestock. This position will supervise up to four full-time employees and as many as four part-time temporary employees in absence of the main foreman. Supervisory responsibilities include day-to-day oversight of employees, planning work schedules, supervising and training them in their work, and completing their performance evaluations. It is expected that all duties of this position will be completed in a professional and dedicated manner.

Required Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

Two years' experience in farming and/or ranching.
Demonstrated experience in operating and maintaining various farm equipment, vehicles, and implements.
Demonstrated experience in inspecting, repairing, and fabricating machinery using welders, torches, hand, and power tools.
Knowledge of farming techniques and crop rotations.
Knowledge of workplace safety practices and providing safety trainings to others.

Preferred Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

Relevant post-secondary education and/or other applicable specialized training desired.
Computer skills in the areas of Microsoft Word, Excel, and email.

Position Special Requirements/Additional Information

Must be able to work varied hours to include evenings and weekends.
Must possess (or have the ability to obtain) a current State of Montana Driver's License and possess an acceptable driving record (less than 12 points).
Must possess(or have the ability to obtain)a Montana Certified Pesticide Applicator's License within six months of hire date.

Physical Demands

Work in adverse weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, and dust and walk long distances over uneven terrain.
