Job Description:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties as assigned.


Adheres to area specific dress code.


Maintains pertinent certification / licensure and annual competencies as defined by job description and department guidelines without expiration, to include assigned pediatric specific competencies.


Follows departmental policy and procedures.


Participates in assigned work area based on service triggers.


Participates in special functions as sponsored by Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation unless otherwise assigned.


Maintains productivity levels within acceptable departmental standards.


Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, specific job related hazards, and national patient safety goals.


Ensures positive customer relation interactions in line with BHM core values and with the consistent communication framework of GREAT.

Key Accountabilities/Competency

Key Accountability



Performs patient evaluations and re-certifications to establish appropriate and progressive treatment goals within departmental guidelines.


Develops and executes treatment plans for patients, making every attempt to evolve and progress treatments per each visit and is proficient with select standardized testing for pediatrics.


Completes timely documentation in the EMR per departmental guidelines.


Works closely with and provides supervision for COTAs regarding patient care and departmental functions.


Develops and instructs patients and their families/support persons in appropriate home programs.


Demonstrates independence for departmental functions: Serves as reliable resource to students, new graduates, and all interdisciplinary team members. Independent in clinical problem solving and utilizes these skills with minimal supervision.


Develops programs to attain personal goals and participates in educational activities to enhance professional growth.


Demonstrates the knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to patients within the following age groups: Neonate/Infant, Child (1-3 years), School age (3-12), adolescent (13 - 18 years), adult (19 - 59 years) and geriatric (over 60 years). This includes the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status, assess requirements relative to age specific needs, and provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures, protocols, and/or program guidelines.


Maintains adequate infection control practices with all equipment utilized in therapy sessions with patients.

Minimum Education, Experience, Training, and Licensures Required:

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited School of Occupational Therapy approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association required. Current state licensure required and renewed yearly. FIM certification preferred. NBCOT certification is required. Effective communication skills highly desirable. BCLS certification required. EXPERIENCE: Two years previous experience preferred; skill competency level for pediatric clientele.
