Job Description

The Department of Organizational Excellence at Volunteers of America Chesapeake, has an exciting internship opportunity for a motivated graduate student. We are looking for a passionate student with a strong interest in getting some hands-on experience with research and data analyses this fall to join our Organizational Excellence team. Strong candidates should demonstrate basic training in both quantitative and qualitative research methods and experience with statistical analyses. The intern will be working closely with the OE team on several projects around data analytics and continuous quality improvement. The intern will have an opportunity to practice their research skills, develop an understanding of the fundamentals of program evaluation, develop and analyze OE-related project plans, metrics and dashboards

Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Quality Assurance, the intern will develop and implement data collection systems and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and data quality. Responsible for tracking, maintaining and reporting data in accordance with funding requirements and timeline schedule.

Intern duties and responsibilities

* Conduct literature review on key conceptual domains within the scope of specific studies.
* Assist data cleaning and preparation for analysis.
* Perform statistical analyses under supervision and mentorship.
* Assist the design of pertinent evaluation studies, data tools, and guidance documents.
* Assist in collecting and analyzing qualitative data (i.e., interviews, text analysis, and document review).
* Serve as a liaison between the OE team and program team, answer questions about data interpretation, and help prepare needed data for meetings.
* Participate in learning/professional development sessions and events at VOA.
* Miscellaneous tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Who You Are?

* You are studying, or have recently graduated with a degree in, economics, statistics, public health, math, computer science or other related fields.
* You are excited about our mission and it is a plus if you have experience in social sciences, and nonprofit- management
* You identify strong attention to detail and project management as a top strength.
* You are a great communicator and are comfortable with delivering a message both verbally and in writing.
* You are comfortable in excel and can use your mathematic or technological skills to navigate different challenges and help solve problems.
* You are excited about statistical programs such as SAS, SPSS and Stata/R and would like to learn how to use them in a practical real-world setting. Previous experience is a big plus!
* You have a level of familiarity with HTML and CSS, and is eager to do more!
* You are a versatile team member - able to work independently, take direction from others, solve problems with limited supervision, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
* You have a collaborative work style, you're an innovative thinker, and have an exceptional work ethic.
* You want to achieve at high levels and are always willing to go the extra mile and exceed expectations.
* Accept 20 hour per week position with a $500 monthly stipend
