Status: Per Diem Facility: Sisters of Charity Hospital St Joseph Campus

Work Schedule: Evenings with Weekend and Holiday Rotation Shift: 2:

Summary:

Provides the Student Intern Medical Technician with the opportunity to train/ work one on one with the laboratory technology preceptor, prior to completion of their senior year of the A.A.S. Clinical Laboratory Technician program. Under the supervision of the department Medical Technologists, the intern enrolled as a medical technician student in an accredited program will be allowed to perform those tasks/duties with which they have become familiar (via theory) and performed (via clinical) thus far during their education on simulated patient samples. Students are encouraged to obtain a Limited NYS Clinical Laboratory Technician License. Individuals without a valid NYS License will train and perform non- technical tasks and special projects. Primary responsibility is to perform tests on body fluids of simulated patients to provide information for the diagnosis and treatment of disease. The ability to properly handle specimens which will be analyzed at a later time is required. The ability to prioritize work to ensure efficient performance is required

Responsibilities:

Education:

* Enrolled in an A.A.S. Medical Technician Program, in senior year Two (2) references from Clinical Instructor A Limited NYS Clinical Laboratory Technician License is preferred
* GPA of 2.75 or above on 4.0 scale
* Must obtain valid NYS limited license within 30 days or full NYS license within 90 days of graduation

Experience:

* Completion of at least one (1) clinical rotation

Knowledge, Skill and Ability:

* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Ability to obtain information and interpret this information in terms of the patient's needs
* Knowledge of growth and development
* Understanding of the range of treatment needed by these patients
