JOB TITLE: Saint Kate Beverage Supervisor

DEPARTMENT: Food & Beverage

SUPERVISOR: Director of Food & Beverage

POSITION PURPOSE: Ensures proper control of liquor inventories while maintaining the highest standards of quality and service. Coordinates and administers sales of beverages in Banquets and outlets.


1. Hire, train, supervise and direct staff in the banquet beverage operations in the Hotel. Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing, to provide clear direction to the staff including providing annual and probationary reviews. Assigns and instructs Beverage staff in details of work. Observes performance and encourages improvement, to include disciplinary action, where necessary.

2. Communicates with guests and associates using a positive and clear speaking voice, listens to and understands requests, responds with appropriate actions, and provides accurate information. Remains calm and alert, especially during emergency situations and/or heavy Hotel activity, serving as a role model for Beverage staff and other Hotel associates. Interacts with catering and banquet department associates as needed for guest service purposes.

3. Fields customer complaints by conducting thorough research of the situation in order to choose the most effective solutions. Makes decisions and takes actions based on previous experience and good judgement, sometimes revising procedures to accommodate unusual situations.

4. Develops and implements basic operating standards for Beverage service in compliance with Federal, State, local, and Hilton practices.

5. Maintains established inventory by ordering all liquor and supplies in accordance with business needs. Performs monthly period end inventory with accounting. Establishes positive working relationships with vendors. Does all purchasing and controls requisition of beverage inventory. Is directly responsible for security of product.

6. Schedules staff within union guidelines and allocates product/equipment according to size of function and/or house count.

7. Performs daily tasks including preparation of daily forecast, supervising daily adherence of all State, Federal, and corporate liquor regulations pertaining to serving alcoholic beverages.

8. Attends and participates in Food and Beverage, BEO, safety and Hotel management meetings on a weekly basis.

9. Plans, organizes, and conducts departmental associate meetings on a monthly basis.

10. Enforces Hotel safety standards to ensure corporate compliance.

11. Performs other duties and handles projects as assigned by the Director of Food and Beverage.


1. Must have knowledge of food and beverage preparation and service of various alcoholic beverages.

2. Knowledge and enforcement of all applicable alcohol and bartender licensing codes.

3. Must possess basic mathematical skills and the ability to use a calculator to prepare moderately complex calculations without error such as determining average covers. Strong familiarization with food and beverage financial systems and controls.

4. Ability to listen effectively and to speak English clearly.

5. Ability to access and accurately input information using a moderately complex system when applicable.

6. Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time while touring food and beverage outlets. Ability to sit and perform tasks in an office atmosphere.

7. College degree preferred.

8. Minimum of two years food and beverage experience and two years of supervisory experience required. One year previous bartending experience required. Any hospitality experience helpful.

9. TIPS certification required, TIPS Instructor certification preferred. Bartender's certificate required.

10. Strong proficiency in Excel required.

11. Bilingual preferred but not required.
