Overview

Overview:

MRC Global serves the oil and gas industry across the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors as well as the chemical and gas distribution market sectors worldwide. We have an immediate opening for an Intern - Cyber Security.

Job Purpose: To provide relevant MRC Global career experience in the areas of IT Cyber Security to currently enrolled students for a short-term assignment.

Responsibilities

An individual must be able to successfully perform the essential duties of this position with or without reasonable accommodations.

* Leverage provided resources to research reported events, threats, vulnerabilities, and intelligence to triage critical events and assist in remediation on low level events.
* Identify attacks and threats, determine root cause, scope, and severity of each, and compile/report findings
* Assist in maturing incident response play books with Security Operations Lead
* Generate and report cybersecurity metrics for vulnerabilities, threats, and incidents monthly (Jun, July, Aug)
* Recommend system tuning/customization and data collection improvements

Qualifications

Any combination of requirements, which provide knowledge and abilities necessary to perform essential duties and responsibilities, will be considered.

* Candidate must be actively pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree with an emphasis in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or similar technical discipline.
* Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
* Solid understanding of current cyber threats, vulnerabilities, and attack trends
* Solid understanding of common computer networking protocols and technologies, and server and desktop operating systems
* 3.0 GPA and above.
* Relevant class projects, professional internships, or academic research
* Familiarity of vulnerability management, cybersecurity assessments, cyber operations, and incident response
* Scripting languages such as Python.
* Experience with performing penetration tests or cybersecurity assessments
* Experience with virtualization and common cloud environments
* Experience with Sandboxing tools for malware reverse engineering
* Familiarity with Open Source Intelligence tools, threat research tools, and MITRE ATT&CK framework.
* Demonstrated ability to communicate and promote ideas and transfer detailed knowledge to others;

Additional Qualifications:

* Must have the ability to provide documentation verifying legal work status;
* Preference will be given to candidates with educational experience related to the tasks outlined above;
* Ability to read and speak the English language proficiently in order to communicate with others, understand and interpret safety instructions, and to respond to inquiries;
* Ability to understand and comply with MRC Global guidelines and expectations, to include Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest guidelines.
