Sales / Application Engineer

Rockford Location

Steiner Metalworking, a Division of Steiner Electric is seeking to add a Sales/Application Engineer to our team.

Steiner Metalworking is looking for an individual with a Sales Application background of 3 years or more in the Industrial Distribution space. Industrial Manufacturing experience, Abrasive applications, Tooling, and Fluids product knowledge is preferred. Engineering skills from CNC Machining applications is a plus. Strong communication and territory management skills are also needed to be considered for this position.

The responsibility of the Industrial Supply Application Engineer is for all outside sales activities within great Rockford area. These key sales activities include account management, servicing of account needs, technical support, selling to existing and prospective accounts, and lead generation creating new customers.

Essential Position Functions:

* Sell into existing and prospective large customers, as well as medium and smaller size entrepreneurial environments
* Sell into existing and prospective OEM and industrial based accounts
* Make division management aware of existing customers within other Company division categories (e.g. electrical or lighting) appropriate for Lunch & Learn seminar sessions
* Articulate and manage customer needs and issues to internal management and staff and conversely represent Steiner management opinions professionally and with best possible outcome
* Take responsibility/ownership for meeting account needs and issues including returns, switch-outs, inventory, purchasing, SPG opportunities, credit, pricing and net profitability
* Pursue sales leads in the generation of new accounts. This includes the use of electronic resources and databases in research
* Provide competitive intelligence on product lines, pricing, new products, GP levels, customer ownership status and other distributor activities as it becomes available
* Utilize Microsoft Office software, such as Word, Excel and the Internet to obtain any pertinent information regarding customer request and in preparation of any Company forms e.g. expense reports and sale call reports
* Participate in Steiner and vendor sponsored training, including but not limited to on site classes, off-site classes and web based training in order to keep up to date on most current product technology
* Cultivate prospective customers
* Promote and discuss all on site Company events
* Interact with customers and vendors at Steiner/Vendor sponsored events
* Support a sell all of Steiner all of thetime mind set across all Steiner product lines and divisions
* Participate and manage GTO/Lucky 13 incentive programs
* Complete and submit all required reporting ontime
* Manage and review customer service stock (CSS)

Position Requirements: Education, Knowledge, Training, Experience, Licenses, Certification

* High School Diploma or GED certification (college degree would be preferred)
* Prefer a minimum of 3+ years outside sales experience
* Prefer, but not essential, knowledge of industrial products, primarily metalworking.
* Able to work successfully within a firm, cultivates and values long term customer relationships
* Able to communicate effectively with a variety of corporate functional departments.
* Comfortable selling to multiple levels of management on a daily, weekly and face-to-face basis
* Successful with extended sale cycles
* Competent in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Outlook
* Familiarity with Contact Relation Management (CRM) database tracking concepts
* Proficient in searching the internet and using a company intranet
* Competent with data mining techniques through use of electronic database resources, such as corporate and industry web sites, on-line industry directory resources and SIC search databases (D&B, Sorkins, Hoovers, etc.)
* Familiar with supply chain logistics and issues
