Job Description

Responsible for overseeing respiratory therapy and/or pulmonary diagnostic activities provided within the Health System and UVA Sleep Disorders Center, and serves as a clinical resource regarding respiratory therapy and/or pulmonary diagnostic services. May be responsible for oversight of specified clinical areas or designated management activities.

* Assesses the patient's respiratory and/or pulmonary diagnostic care needs and develops a therapeutic plan. Performs respiratory therapy/pulmonary diagnostic procedures according to established guidelines.
* Documents patient care according to professional standards and departmental guidelines.
* Accurately communicates patient responses to respiratory therapy/pulmonary diagnostic interventions and recommends need for modification of patient care plan.
* Performs equipment quality control.
* Participates in respiratory therapy/pulmonary diagnostic professional activities and continuing education. Supervises service area staff and students.
* In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Position Compensation Range: $28.96 - $46.34 Hourly


* Education: Bachelor's Degree, preferably in a healthcare related field.
* Experience: 4 years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)/ Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) or Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT).
* License/Certification: Licensed to practice as a Polysomnographic Technologist or Respiratory Therapist (RPSGT/RRT) in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) or Sleep Disorders Specialist (SDS). American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.


Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently walking; Reaching: (overhead, extensive, repetitive). Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
