Job Description

Lake House Academy is a nationally recognized therapeutic program. We've been treating adolescent girls and their families since 2010. The founders recognized the need for a program that was specifically tailored for young girls in the middle school years. We provide an environment that allows young girls to reconnect and build hope with their families, establish and maintain academic success, and gain the skills to thrive as a healthy young lady.

Lake House Academy is nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains just outside of Asheville, North Carolina. The Main Lodge houses 36 girls and 8 girls within the Gate House. Lake House Academy is specifically designed to meet the needs of the middle school aged girls. Everything we do is intentional and well-thought out to help these girls in an age appropriate manner. We are highly individualized in working with both the girls and her family. We will "meet the girl where she is" and start from that point rather than making her adapt and adjust to us. In the long term, we believe that this promotes long lasting change. Therapeutic approach is very relational and also experiential/play based - as traditional therapeutic modalities have often already been tried and have not been successful.

The staff identifies each girls therapeutic, academic, and life skills needs with a carefully integrated approach. While girls are going through their own healing and rebuilding process they need a home that can meet all of their needs. Lake House Academy provides guidance, education, compassion, safety, accountability, protection, fun and love.

Teach students on varying grade levels in History in grades 5-9. Will design and prepare curriculum in accordance to the North Carolina standards.

Essential Functions Statement(s)

* Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among students.
* Instruct through lectures, discussions, and demonstrations in field of expertise which will include varying subjects in that area.
* Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
* Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, policies, Lake House Academy and administrative regulations.
* Enforce all administration policies and rules governing students.
* Assign and grade class work and homework.
* Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
* Observe and evaluate students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health, giving input to the treatment team.
* Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
* Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students' progress.
* Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students.
* Guide and counsel assigned students on education goals, including college planning as needed.
* Prepare students for later grades by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks.
* Prepare objectives and outlines for courses of study, following curriculum guidelines or requirements of the state of North Carolina and Lake House Academy.
* Confer with parents or guardians, other teachers, clinicians, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems.
* Update parents with grades and progress notes; meet or speak with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress and to determine priorities for their children and their needs as necessary.
* Instruct and monitor students in the use of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage.
* Use computers, audio-visual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations.
* Prepare for assigned classes and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisors.
* Prepare and implement remedial programs for students requiring extra help.
* Meet with other professionals to discuss individual students' needs and progress.
* Confer with other staff members to plan and schedule lessons promoting learning, following approved curricula.
* Prepare reports on students and activities as required by administration.
* Collaborate with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of secondary school programs.
* Sponsor extracurricular activities such as clubs, student organizations, and academic contests.
* Attend staff meetings and serve on committees, as required.
* Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers, or other experiential activities, and guide students in learning from those activities.
* Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops to maintain and improve professional competence.
* Work with department to administer standardized ability and achievement tests and interpret results to determine students' strengths and areas of need.
* Select, store, order, issue, and inventory classroom equipment, materials, and supplies.
* Assist students with disabilities who use assistive devices, supportive technology, and accommodations as needed.
