Job Description

Position: Electronics Engineer

Reports To: Laboratory Director

Department: Analysis and Testing Laboratory

Location: Albuquerque, NM

Date Opened: February 4, 2019

Exempt/Hourly: Exempt

Position Summary:

Perform electrical and physical analysis on semiconductor devices in support of improving product reliability and performance. Understand-from a reliability standpoint-the materials, properties, process capability and techniques used in semiconductor fabrication. Use of electronics and device physics concepts; exhibit proficiency in electrical test development of components and reliability testing along with up screening.

The Electronics Engineer has overall responsibility for incoming inspection, optical microscopy, cross-sectioning, decapsulation, wire pull, die shear, seal, PIND, and XRF.

The Electronics Engineer will receive work assignments from the Laboratory Manager.

Responsibilities:

Test Performance

* Ability to read circuit schematics and layouts and apply analysis procedures to identify fault location and the root cause (troubleshooting capability). Ability to write analysis reports, including charts and photographs. Coordinate with individuals involved with counterfeit part investigations.
* The Electronics Engineer will perform component engineering test development for IC's, hybrids, logic, MRAM and other various electronics components.

Planning of Tests and Evaluation of Results

* The Electronics Engineer will receive assignments from the Laboratory Manager as defined in the Contract Initiation and Review Process. The Electronics Engineer will participate in the planning and evaluation of test results with support by the IATL laboratory personnel and in particular, the Laboratory Manager. Test Reports are reviewed and authorized by the Laboratory Manager.

Reporting Opinions and Interpretations

* The Electronics Engineer will perform tests and is authorized* to provide Opinions and Interpretations in Test Reports. The Opinions and Interpretations will be clearly referenced in the Test Report as defined in the Testing Process. The Test Reports are reviewed and approved by the Laboratory Manager. The Opinions and Interpretations may be communicated / discussed with the Client.
* Electronics Engineer Authorizations are limited to the Tests defined on the Skill Set Model (SSM) where successful evaluation results have been recorded (on the SSM).

Method Modification and Development and Validation of New Methods

* Method Modification and Development and Validations of New Methods are not authorized unless specifically directed and recorded by the Laboratory Manager. The Electronics Engineer will perform testing activities through the use of Standards as recorded in the External Document Register.

Education and Expertise / Experience:

* BS Engineering or Engineering Technology
* 3 years analysis or test experience required.
* Hands on lab experience preferred with component testing and analysis.
* Experience with standalone component electrical verification and able to test per datasheet and explain results
* Test Report generation experience preferred.

Skills:

* Knowledgeable in Project Management Skills
* Knowledgeable in integrated circuit fabrication
* Demonstrable troubleshooting skills
* Familiar with bench test equipment (LCR, O'Scope, Curve Tracer, Programmable memories, Timing circuits, etc.)
* Familiar with chemical decapsulation techniques
* Familiar with cross-sectioning techniques
* Experience with analysis tools such as optical microscope, XRF, X-ray, C-SAM, FTIR and SEM
* Demonstrable manual dexterity
* Mechanical aptitude
* Aware of military component specification (as defined on the External Document Register).
* Ability to effectively interface with Clients

Working Conditions:

* Office and Laboratory work environment where observation of laboratory protocols identified in processes such as Electrostatic Discharge Control, Testing Process and related Instructions, Calibration and Preventive Maintenance.

Physical Requirements:

* Work Environment: Office environment where the noise level is generally quiet to moderately noisy.
* Weight Requirements: Ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 40 pounds.
* Body Movements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand, walk, sit, climb, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Ability to stand, sit, and move about facility for long periods of time. Ability to use hands and fingers.
* Work Position: Combination of sitting, standing, and walking around.
* Sensory Requirements: Vision, speech, hearing, smell and touch are routinely used in day to day functions.
