Job Description

Job Title: Costume Shop Manger

Reports To: Head of Costumes

Classification: Salaried- Exempt

Summary:

Reporting to the Head of Costumes, the Costume Shop Manager is responsible for the overall management of the daily activities in the wardrobe workroom including alterations, restoration and new builds.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned;

* Collaborate with Head of Costumes to supervise costume shop daily activities and contract employee functions.
* Prepare weekly payroll bills for costume shop personnel and turn into Production Coordinator for processing to Finance department.
* Responsible for maintenance/upkeep of machinery in costume shop, dye, spray room and Wortham work room.
* Attend all production (and planning) meetings for Company productions. Attend all design meetings for Company new production builds as assigned by Head of Costumes.
* Collaborate with Head of Costumes in budgeting and staffing projections. Review weekly budget totals and report to Head of Costumes.
* Coordinate with Stage Management and Wardrobe Assistant(s)/Wardrobe Coordinator(s) (1 & 2) regarding rehearsal items (new, existing and specialty).
* Assists, advises and supports Head of Costumes and designers in producing the Artistic product for Company and Academy productions.
* Coordinates purchasing of general stock and show specific items for costume shop. Collaborate with Head of Costumes/designers regarding purchases for new production builds. Organize all purchases (fabrics, trims, notions, accessories) for use in shop and fittings.
* Coordinate new production bibles for design, fabric and contracts. Oversee production of cutter bibles/patterns/references for future reference.
* Collaborate with cutter/drapers and project team leaders regarding costume shares lists. Generate shares list for Wardrobe Assistant(s)/Wardrobe Coordinator(s) (1 & 2) for production purposes.
* Coordinate with Wardrobe Assistant(s)/Wardrobe Coordinator(s) (1 & 2) specialty shoe/boot painting needs for Company and Academy. Oversee painting process with dyer/crafts personnel.
* Manage Shoe Room Coordinator
* Generate inventories regarding all new production builds for assistant(s) use to create departmental file(s).
* Attend technical/dress rehearsals for Company new production builds. Collaborate with Head of Costumes and Wardrobe Assistant/Wardrobe Coordinator (1) regarding notes and coordinate notes for costume shop personnel. Oversee notes to completion for following performance date.
* Collaborate with Head of Costumes and Wardrobe Assistant/Wardrobe Coordinator (2) regarding notes from Academy technical/dress rehearsals and coordinate notes for costume shop personnel. Oversee notes to completion for following performance date.
* Collaborate with Head of Costumes and dyer to create laundry suggestions/instructions for new production builds and present findings to wardrobe assistant(s) (1 & 2) for incorporation into production paperwork.
* Assists, advises, and supports Public Relations department as assigned by Head of Costumes.
* Assists, advises, and supports Head of Costumes, Associate Director of Human Resources and Facilities Manager regarding safety needs/issues.
* Creation and upkeep of MSDS/SDS books.
* Coordinate intern assignments (dependent on criteria of student program and departmental needs).
* Generate Costume Shop deadlines with Head of Costumes for the departmental season calendar.
* Assists, advises, and supports Head of Costumes as needed.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

* Bachelor's Degree in Technical Theatre or higher education
* Minimum of 2 years costume shop experience with one year in leadership role

Computer Skills

* Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity and processing systems, (Outlook, Word and Excel) etc.

Physical Demands:

* Bending legs downward and forward by bending leg and spine.

* Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less).

Work Environment:

Well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation.

Regular - Monday - Friday, occasional weekends, this position does require work outside of the normal business hours.

Light overnight travel (up to 10%) by land and/or air.
