Job Description

As our direct care staff work with youth that are 18-24 years old,

we require that applicants are at least 25 years old.

The workdays for this position are Friday (8 pm-12 am), Saturday and Sunday (4 pm-12 am)

JOB TITLE: Resident Advisor

DIVISION: Rights of Passage/Transitional Living Program

STATUS: Non-Exempt

SHIFT SCHEDULE: (part time employee hours may vary)

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Residential Services Coordinator or Resident Manager, the Resident Advisor is responsible for providing shelter supervision (custodial) and delivery of residential services to residents within the framework of the Mission Statement, Five Principles. This position is required to adhere to all agency policies/procedures and practices (time/attendance, cell phone, telecommunications, safety, remaining awake/alert, etc.) This position requires on-duty meals and breaks and for employees to sign the attached on-duty meal request form.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Provide custodial supervision of the shelter, including coverage of the various areas of the facility.

In compliance with established policies and procedures, provide support for Case Managers and Supervisors, including, but not limited to, the following:

a. Sign out bus tokens, as designated;

b. Pack, tag and store belongings of discharged residents;

c. Inspect physical plant for safety and maintenance;

d. Dispense and log medication;

f. Complete work orders and requisitions, as needed;

g. Complete intake and discharge paperwork;

h. Function as back-up Case Manager, as assigned;

i. Build rapport with residents;

j. Work directly with residents doing triage, (i.e., field questions, ask what residents need, clarify the problem, ask if Case Manager is aware of a problem, etc.);

k. Supervise residents in completion of chores and supervise at client dinner time;

l. Inspect common areas and bedrooms for cleanliness on a daily basis;

m. Monitor residents in clothing room;

n. Be alert to residents and surroundings even during one-on-one conversations;

o. Function as Person in Charge (PIC), as designated;

p. Ensure that all residents are in compliance with upstairs bed time at end of program day.

Coordinate/facilitate and supervise in-house group activities special activities and outings as needed.

Assist in the implementation of the Aftercare and mentor program as assigned.

Be timely and present at all scheduled meetings, including transitions, staff meetings and trainings.

Develop knowledge of the current community resources and referrals, which may entail attendance at off-site meetings and trainings.

Communicate pertinent information to Case Managers, Supervisors, and Supportive Services.

Be familiar and comply with agency policies and procedures. Report any deviations to Supervisor.

Understand and integrate the Five Principles of the Covenant House Philosophy, (immediacy, sanctuary, value communication, structure, and choice).

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

SKILLS: Must have strong verbal and written communication skills and strong organizational skills. Must be computer literate (Word, Outlook, ACCESS, etc.) Must be a self-starter and team player with the ability to work with other staff members, clients, vendors and the public.

WORKING CONDITIONS: General business/office environment. Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. on occasion, bend, sit and stand for prolonged periods of time. Some weekend/holiday work may be required.

KNOWLEDGE: Adolescent Development, Crisis Intervention, Multi-Cultural Awareness, knowledge/training of Pro-Act, CPR and FIRST AID.
