Job Description

Perioperative Clinical Development Specialist opportunity in our Main OR Nursing

Ideal candidate must have a Bachelor's degree in Nursing, TX RN License and five years RN experience in a perioperative stetting to include three years of experience with staff development, training, coaching or formal clinical education experience.

General Responsibilities

* Serves as an expert in OR patient care issues
* Participates in OR performance improvement initiatives
* Serves as a consultant for OR Policy & Procedure development
* Collaborates with Pre-op/PACU CDS for Perioperative patient care & safety initiatives
* Quality- Analyzes SI event trends reported for trends, and identifies areas of educational opportunity/competency for both

Clinical Resource

* Makes rounds in the OR daily, serving as a key resource for staff regarding policy/practice standards/competency
* Communicates weekly with Nurse Managers/Assistant Nurse Managers regarding practice/competency issues and learning needs of employees
* Collaborates with management team and Institutional Education Instructor to develop educational interventions to increase competency levels of staff incorporating Perioperative Guidelines, Institutional and Professional practice standards
* Identifies and analyzes aggregate competency data and designs appropriate strategies to address identified competency issues
* Serves as an expert on OR Perioperative patient care issues
* Serve as a resource or consult for the OR Shared Governance Committee and other interdisciplinary work groups

Orientation of Employees

* Collaborates with management team and Institutional Education Instructor, on clinical orientation pathways of newly hired OR employees and their selected coaches and mentors
* Develops and assesses orientation competencies of OR employees
* Uses Performance-Based Developmental System (PBDS) feedback and new employee assessment data to design individualized learning plan for orientees
* Works with Institutional Education Instructor, to identify resources and strategies to implement the learner's individualized plan
* Works with clinical coaches, management team and Institutional Education Instructor to monitor and document progress of learner activities
* Provides coaching & development for clinical coaches

OR Residency/Internship Program & Clinical Students

* Participates in selection of candidates for RN Residency program
* Coordinates labs and clinical experiences for RN Residents / ST interns
* Assists Education Instructor in coordinating classroom activities for residents in clinical as needed
* Teaches selected classes
* Evaluates progress of residents/interns
* Meets regularly with management team, Institutional Education Instructor, and coaches/learners to discuss progress
* Directs, oversees, and evaluates RN Residents individualized progress including personnel management
* Serves as a liaison for international visitors, and nursing/medical/PA student observers and provides orientation and education as needed
* Develops, coordinates and evaluates programs to support student development and community outreach

Continuing Education

* Identifies potential CE offerings for OR employees
* Collaborates with Institutional Education Instructor in the implementation of CE Offerings
* Serves as a back up to Education Instructor for the coordination of CE offerings
* Serves as a resource to QECs in development of Quad/ Service-specific education modules
* Attends "Coach Connections" offerings

Inservice Education

* Designs, develops, implements and coordinates inservice education for OR employees based on identified learning needs
* Provides responsive just-in-time inservice education to meet learning needs identified on rounds, etc.
* Ensures all documentation and attendance records of In-service Education offerings are maintained
* Serves as a resource for new equipment, supplies & trials introduced in the OR and ensures timely education is provided & documented

Competency Assessment

* Works with Institutional Education Instructor to ensure all organizational/Nursing Division competency requirements are met
* Identifies core role-specific employee competencies for OR
* Assesses competency needs to be addressed for OR employees based on aggregate data collected
* Coordinates annual clinical competency assessment strategies in collaboration with management team and Institutional Education Instructor.

Required: Bachelor's degree in Nursing

Preferred: Master's degree in Nursing

Experience: Five years registered nursing experience in a perioperative setting to include three years of experience with staff development, training, coaching or formal clinical education experience.

Licensure: Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN).
