SummaryVarex Imaging is looking for a summer intern for our Mechanical Engineering department. The summer internship will be from May 2019 to August 2019.

Job Description

We are looking for a strong electrical-mechanical engineering student that is interested in developing electrical and mechanical components and sub-systems. Within this team, you will be responsible to execute test plans for life tests and component level and product level specification verification and validation protocols. This internship will include setup and use of the equipment for the testing, instrumenting the tests (oscilloscopes, thermocouples, data collection devices, accelerometers, etc.), and documenting the results.

You will also have the opportunity to facilitate engineering prototype builds, develop and perform tests on engineering prototypes and experimental setups, and help with the transition of R&D projects to manufacturing. You will expand your hands-on experience with multiple manufacturing and assembly methods including welding, brazing, implications of torque values on fasteners and their impact on the design. You will be exposed to medical CT equipment and the design challenges associated with high g-forces and managing thermal loads in electro-mechanical systems.

You will be supporting a high-end development department working on next generation medical CT components. You will be joining a diverse R&D group that develops and integrates a high voltage imaging chain for major and developing OEM CT partners and has a lot of fun doing it. Skill Requirements:

* Experience working with electro-mechanical systems - preferably x-ray or CT equipment
* Moderate hands on experience in functional testing and troubleshooting thermo-mechanical and electro-mechanical devices (heat exchangers, mechanical assemblies, electro-magnetic components, x-ray generators, etc.)
* Moderate hands on experience with test equipment and data collection methods (oscilloscopes, accelerometers, environmental chambers, flow measurement, etc.)
* Strong technical writing/documentation skills
* Amiable team player attitude and attention to detail and willingness to be meticulous and thorough
* General knowledge of common manufacturing processes and assembly methods (machining, forming, bending, casting, molding, fastening methods, welding, brazing, etc.) and metals (steels, copper, refractory), ceramics, and polymers
* Highly motivated and self-driven
* Be awesome - we need a student who can learn quickly, contribute immediately, and help us complete key tests to drive products to market

* Obtains and completes LMS training plan specific to assigned responsibility.

Experience Level with Business Tools

* Proficient in utilizing business tools such as: E-mail, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.



* As a skilled specialist, completes tasks in resourceful and effective ways.

Job Complexity

* Works on assignments requiring considerable judgment and initiative. Understands implications or work and makes recommendations for solutions.

Typical Education and Experience

* You just must be awesome. A current student pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Physics/Applied Physics, or an Engineering Technology program are most applicable.
