Job Description

The Accounting and Finance Intern provides support to the Project Controller with emphasis on Enterprise Risk Management, Benchmarking, and business unit specific projects. The Accounting and Finance Intern role requires an individual with a major in accounting or finance, analytical skills and good time management. The role also requires an individual with sound communication skills (both written and verbal). The Accounting & Finance Internship provides a good opportunity to be exposed to corporate and business unit activities.

Responsibilities

Enterprise Risk Management

* Update standardized templates for current year input
* Participate in SBU meetings with Project Controller to update ERM documentation
* Prepare summary PowerPoint slides for review with the VP, Corporate Controller

Benchmarking

* Perform benchmarking analysis for various business units utilizing external sources
* Analyze industry performance versus business performance to identify differences
* Update PowerPoint slides for review with VP, Corporate Controller

Specific Projects: These are a sample of projects, not all will be assigned.

* Develop a Microsoft SharePoint site for accounting policies and other finance and accounting documents
* Participate in standardizing PowerPoint presentations and excel files for budget and forecasting submissions
* Develop customer and product line P&Ls and analyze opportunities to improve profitability at High Steel Service Center
* Support ongoing financial analysis and reporting activities at High Steel Structures
* Support implementation work on new lease accounting standard

Opportunities for Resume Building

* Spend the day shadowing the VP, Corporate Controller
* Have lunch with the SVP, Chief Financial Officer
* Have lunch with CEO and VP of Human Resources
* Visit a project job site
* Tour various High facilities, which may include: High Concrete, High Steel, the Service Center
* Organize an activity to support our local community or other special intern events

Requirements

* Pursuing a bachelor's degree with a major in Accounting or Finance
* Basic understanding of Microsoft applications, such as Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
* Required maturity and a high level of professionalism coupled with good interpersonal and communication skills
* Attention to detail, flexibility and good communication skills (both written and verbal) are essential

* You will work in a professional office environment. Your desk will be near a window with plenty of natural light
* Limited travel for special events or community involvement
* You may be asked to participate in a case study or take an assessment
