Job Description

At Paul Mitchell The School Dallas we value people and have work that matters! The Assistant Controller will work directly with the CFO and be responsible to lead the accounting department charged with preparing accurate monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP for a growing organization. In addition, he/she will be responsible for maintaining a strong system of accounting records, controls and policies designed to enhance the accuracy of the company's reported results.

Roles and Responsibilities:

* Manage all accounting functions including accounts payable, cash flow, purchasing and billing.
* Prepares and presents monthly and annual financial statement reports including but not limited to balance sheet, income statement, cash flow and variance analysis
* Reviews and implements accounting system policies and procedures while constantly driving improvements through automation.
* Ensures all financial reports are prepared in a timely manner with a high degree of accuracy and variance analysis
* Oversees accounts payable function including compliance with expense reporting, capitalization policy and purchase order procedures
* Coordinates annual independent audit and timely preparation of annual income and franchise tax returns with outside firm for various entities
* Maintains fixed asset records and depreciation rates for internal book purposes
* Oversees preparation of sales and personal property tax returns, and insurance policy applications
* Leads departmental and organizational initiatives as assigned
* Evaluates performance of accounting department personnel. Recommends training requirements to ensure staff skills are appropriate to meet company needs and objectives, and recommends personnel be hired or removed from the department. Leverage the skills of the current team members; help clarify roles and responsibilities
* Role includes making journal entries, approving accounts payable and maintaining general ledger
* Performs other related duties as assigned by the CFO

Ideal Fit:

* Proven capabilities as a senior accountant in closing monthly and annual financials in accordance with GAAP
* Self-starter who proposes and executes solutions to problems
* Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills, demonstrating ability to manage priorities and work flow
* Commitment to excellence and high standards
* Demonstrate ability to supervise, develop and encourage subordinates
* Experience in for profit school accounting a regulation a plus
* Leads by example and treats others the way he/she wants to be treated. Willing to live, work and lead by our tenants: love, mercy, grace, forgiveness and accountability


* Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
* CPA certification
* 5-7 years of accounting and finance experience
* 2 years as assistance controller
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
* Proficiency in QuickBooks
* Public accounting experience a plus
