Job Description

Highland Capital Management, L.P. is a multibillion-dollar global alternative investment manager. Founded in 1993 by Jim Dondero and Mark Okada, Highland operates across a variety of asset classes and structures within the alternative landscape including hedge funds, separate accounts, distressed and special situations private equity, collateralized loan obligations (CLOs), mutual funds, and ETFs. Highland Capital Management, L.P. seeks a part-time accountant to assist in the maintenance of the general ledger for the parent company of Highland Capital, various real estate investment partnerships and corporations. Duties will include weekly reconciliations, monthly journal entries and closing procedures, financial reporting, and assistance in managing critical services vendors. This individual will garner significant exposure to back office and front office functions and will assist in various ad-hoc requests. This person will work as part of the Corporate Accounting team, in a collaborative, collegial environment.

Responsibilities:

* General ledger maintenance for Corporate Accounting
* Research technical accounting and disclosure issues
* Analyze consolidation requirements under ASC 810
* Coordination of management company audits, including authorship of annual audit reports
* Preparing and executing firm-wide semimonthly payroll duties
* Perform various ad-hoc research and reporting projects for company management

Qualifications:

* MPA/BBA in Accounting from a top tier business school, minor in Finance a plus
* 2+ years' experience in the accounting field or at a Big 4 accounting firm
* Current CPA license or completion of all four CPA exams (required)
* Working knowledge of general finance and accounting functions
* Advanced MS Office skills with emphasis on Excel
* Prior Oracle and Quickbooks experience a plus but not required
* Excellent communication and organizational skills
* Detail and task-oriented
* Strong work ethic and a team player
