Public Works Project Manager I (Architectural)

The State of New Hampshire, Department of Administrative Services, Division of Public Works Agency, Division of Public Works has a full time vacancy for a Public Works Project Manager I (Architectural).


Performs a variety of technical, engineering, and architectural duties including the design and drafting of various architectural projects for the Bureau of Public Works. All work is under the supervision of a Registered Architect (R.A.).


Supervises the inspection and monitoring of construction projects, the preparation of project records which document the quality and quantity of the completed construction, and the training and education of subordinate personnel.

Designs buildings and other public works, including those involving the state-owned ski areas, airport and parks.

Reviews design plans of lesser projects for proper and effective operation of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.

Inspects publicly owned buildings and other facilities to determine their condition and writes inspection reports containing repair recommendations.

Reviews detailed plans and technical specifications of public works projects to assure compliance with accepted standards.

Writes technical reports and specifications.

Acts as project manager to coordinate and track lesser public works projects and to ensure work is completed according to schedule.

Communicates with other agencies within the state, outside the state, and the federal government, as well as with individuals regarding contract documents and specifications and/or the design, construction and maintaining of public works projects.

Coordinates the development of conceptual, schematic and final project plans with user agencies, permitting officials and consultants.

Education: Possession of a Master's degree from a recognized college or university with a major study in civil, mechanical or electrical engineering or architecture.

Experience: No experience required.


Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university with a major study in civil, mechanical or electrical engineering or architecture.

Experience: Eighteen months' post baccalaureate experience in the practice of civil engineering.


Education: Possession of an Associate's degree from a recognized college or technical school with a major study in civil, mechanical, electrical engineering technology or architectural technology.

Experience: Eighteen months' experience in the practice of engineering at a level equivalent to Public Works Project Manager I (or higher), plus two additional years' experience in a position comparable to an Engineering Technician or five years' experience in an architectural environment in a position comparable to an Architectural Technician.

License/Certification: Possession of an Engineer-in Training Certificate issued by the Joint Board of Licensure and Certification. Bachelor's degree applicants not possessing an E.I.T. Certificate may be hired at a one-salary grade reduction. No certificate is required for architectural technology applicants).
