The State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation, Division of Project Development, Bureau of Highway Design has a full time vacancy for Civil Engineer I - III.

Summary:

CIVIL ENGINEER I

Performs entry- level civil engineer duties during assignment to seven bureaus within the DOT over an 18-month period, which allows exposure to a variety of engineering disciplines.

CIVIL ENGINEER II

To perform basic engineering duties for a variety of engineering projects.

CIVIL ENGINEER III

To supervise and coordinate complex engineering activities for a group of highway projects in Highway Design Bureau.

Responsibilities:

CIVIL ENGINEER I

Observes the inspection of construction materials to ensure compliance with material specifications.

Reviews and checks project records and documentation to determine quantities upon which payment to contractors is based.

Compiles information, performs basic design functions and computes quantities.

Reviews construction plans for compliance, evaluates proposed improvements and prepares design plans.

Observes batch plan operations, performing engineering material laboratory tests and reviewing mix designs

Sets up and operates survey equipment, tabulates data, performs calculations.

Checks and performs calculations for highway and/or bridge design layout work and drainage.

CIVIL ENGINEER II

Compiles information, performs basic design, computes quantities and reviews highway plans.

Reviews engineering plans to evaluate proposed improvements and ensure compliance with standards.

Communicates with other Bureaus to gather information for highway plans.

Assists in training subordinates to increase their technical knowledge and skills.

Monitors progress of work to meet established schedules.

CIVIL ENGINEER III

Analyzes, designs, and documents engineering tasks.

Supervises, trains and directs subordinates to achieve specific engineering goals.

Communicates and coordinates with individuals and organizations to gather input for projects.

Drafts technical reports and correspondence for project development.

Instructs and supervises team members in the preparation of plans, specifications, and estimates.

CIVIL ENGINEER I

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university with a major study in civil engineering or civil engineering technology.

Experience: No experience required.

OR

Education: Possession of an Associate's degree from a recognized college or technical school with a major study in civil technology.

Experience: Two years' post graduate experience in a civil engineering environment in a position comparable to an Engineering Technician.

License/Certification: Possession of an Engineer-in-Training Certificate issued by the Joint Board of Licensure and Certification. (Bachelor's degree applicants not possessing an E.I.T. Certificate may be hired at a one-salary grade reduction).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (For Department of Transportation only) Candidates with degrees in one of the fields listed below may be hired at a level of Engineering Technician (level depends upon experience) and promoted to Civil Engineer I upon possession of an E.I.T. Certificate and the experience qualifications stated on this class specification:

* Bachelor's degree in Architectural Engineering Technology
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
* Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
* Bachelor's degree in an Environmental Science
* Associate's degree in Architectural Engineering Technology and

Architecture and Building Technology

Consideration of the candidates' qualifications will take place on a case-by-case basis by the Division of Personnel in conjunction with the Department of Transportation.

CIVIL ENGINEER II

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Possession of a Master's degree from a recognized college or university with a major study in civil engineering.

Experience: No experience required.

OR

Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university with a major study in civil engineering.

Experience: Eighteen months' post baccalaureate experience in the practice of civil engineering.

OR

Education: Possession of an Associate's degree from a recognized college or technical school with a major study in civil technology.

Experience: Eighteen months' experience in the practice of civil engineering at a level equivalent to Civil Engineer I (or higher), plus two additional years' experience in a position comparable to an Engineering Technician.

License/Certification: Possession of an Engineer-in-Training Certificate issued by the Joint Board of Licensure and Certification. (Bachelor's degree applicants not possessing an E.I.T. Certificate may be hired at a one-salary grade reduction).

Experience: Four years' experience in the practice of civil engineering at a level equivalent to Civil Engineer I (or higher), plus two additional years' experience in a position comparable to an Engineering Technician.

License/Certification: Possession of an Engineer-in-Training Certificate issued by the Joint Board of Licensure and Certification.
