Job Description

Title: Design Engineer

Location: Cape Canaveral, FL

Clearance: Secret

Citizenship requirement: US

Salary: Competitive

Under general supervision of engineering design team, selects appropriate components and materials, creates a 3D model, details the design, and then documents the designs. Generates 3D models for design analysis, such as tolerance stack-up, interference, press fits, sliding fits, etc. and creates models for manufacturing, including all required manufacturing data. Generates 2D prints from 3D models for specified manufacturing and drawing documentation requirements.

* Details designs of piece parts, subassemblies, and assemblies. Wire harnesses and electrical layouts a plus.
* Selects appropriate components and materials for designs.
* Tests virtual prototypes of designs and reports results.
* Responsible for documenting designs and following drawing standards.
* Assists manufacturing, procurement, logistics, and quality on product issues. May interface with vendors regarding component selection and parts issues.
* Takes direction well with minimal guidance.
* Must be a United States citizen.
* Current DoD secret clearance.

Experience

* Three (3) to five (5) or more years of work experience, preferably in aerospace, marine, and/or automotive industries. Physical simulator and task trainer experience is a plus.
* Working knowledge of industry drawing standards, policies, and procedures. DoD/military standards is a plus.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

* Must be highly proficient in SOLIDWORKS 2015. AutoCAD 2D and 3D is a plus.
* Understand and interpret design specifications.
* Must be able to take an engineering sketch, idea, or verbal description from the design team and generate a working SOLIDWORKS CAD model and 2D drawing for production.
* Must understand how to create and use solid models for material and structural analyses.
* Must have strong Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) background and understanding.
* Proficiency in assigning materials and weights to SOLIDWORKS models and perform center of gravity (CG) calculations and assignments.
* Strong comprehension of how to generate Bill of Materials (BOM), general and flag notes, and parts lists, and have an overall understanding of drawing management and configuration management processes and procedures.
* Good understanding of CNC and general manufacturing processes.
* Strong team skills with ability to collaborate and work effectively with internal colleagues, design team, and customers.
* Working knowledge of MS Office products including Excel, Word, and Outlook. Working knowledge of MS Project is a plus.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Hands-on capability of electromechanical assembly and testing is a plus.

Education

* Bachelor of Science, ABET Mechanical Engineering from an accredited University.

College Degrees must come from a school that is accredited in the discipline of the degree to be considered.
