We seek a Strategic Planning Manager to join our New York, NY office and lead our clients in developing a vision, ideas, and roadmap for how to activate marketing strategies.

 

ZS's Business Consulting group delivers solutions to a broad spectrum of sales and marketing challenges, basing our recommendations and solutions on rigorous research and analysis underpinned by our deep expertise and thought leadership. However, we want to make sure that the solutions we develop for our clients don’t just sit on a shelf. For example, we want customer segments to be humanized, to pop off the page and come to life. We want our clients to empathize with and feel the journeys that their customers are going through... and then to see a clear path for how to activate each customer along the way in a way that will resonate for them.

 

We are therefore evolving our Business Consulting group by developing a Creative+Design Expertise Center that is designed to further enable our consulting strategies to have a deeper impact, integrating form and function, creativity and rigor; by focusing not only on the data, insights, and strategy but also the synthesis, creative articulation, and activation plan.

 

As a Strategic Planning Manager, you will be critical to the development of our new Expertise Center. You will be partnering with internal teams and clients to conceive of innovative methods to connect business and marketing strategy to execution. You will also be charged with synthesizing insights, strategies, and executional ideas in way that best resonate with our clients, telling the engaging stories. And you will work with our visual designers and experience designers to bring those stories to life through a variety of creative articulations, techniques, and platforms.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and articulate relevant marketing implications from strategic consulting engagements across multiple projects simultaneously
  • Motivate, coach and serve as a role model for teams of people who provide key support and delivery of client projects;
  • Design, facilitate, and moderate client workshops, including positioning, segmentation, customer journey, and customer experience
  • Work with other consulting team members and design team to bring strategic and tactical recommendations to life for clients
  • Orchestrate the design process with visual designers and experience designers
  • Bring specific knowledge, skills and processes in strategic planning and train others on strategic planning best practices, including in:
    • Crafting of customer personas from segmentation data and analysis
    • Mapping of customer journey and ecosystem
    • Developing communication platforms aligned to segments and journey stages
    • Drafting of creative and experience briefs
  • Demonstrate thought leadership on new and innovative programs, tactics, and customer experiences in the marketing world, both within and outside pharma
  • Partner with managers and principals in consulting group to drive business development and client relationships
  • Serve as an active leader in the Expertise Center
  • Cultivate the marketing expertise of our people

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • At least 10+ years of pharmaceutical industry experience, including in strategic planning for a branding firm or agency
  • Experience working in advertising agency environment. Understanding of account, creative, and operational agency processes
  • Demonstrated success in team and people management
  • Strong decision-making skills and the ability to influence others
  • Ability to effectively partner with end clients, consultants, and agency personnel from a variety of disciplines (i.e., marketing, insights/ market research, sales, account, and creative) to orchestrate the effective pull-through of strategies in the development of customer engagements/experiences.  
  • Deep understanding of strategic brand segmentation, targeting, positioning, customer journey and customer experience
  • Excel at taking complex ideas and distilling and communicate into a big idea
  • Ability to take business insights and strategies and conceive of innovative, relevant, and tangible activation ideas
  • Eagerness and adaptability required to build a new capability within a large consulting organization
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to guide construction of compelling visualizations for presentations across a variety of contexts.
  • A willingness to travel to meet client needs (Potentially 10-25%)

 

ZS is a global consulting firm; English fluency is required, additional fluency in at least one European or Asian language is highly desired.
