Job Description

Zimmer Knee Creations (a new division of Zimmer Biomet) is an innovative start-up small company focused on introducing a revolutionary new surgical treatment to the orthopedics market. We are continually expanding our development beyond the knee to address needs in many orthopedic areas. Subchondroplasty is a new minimally invasive treatment- more information can be found at subchondroplasty.com.

Responsible for the design, development, and processing of medical instruments in conjunction with the engineering team. Each intern will be given a design project involving parametric CAD modeling and 3D rapid prototyping. The intern will function as a JR. engineer which may include learning and functioning in the development of DHFs (design history files), CE technical files, cadaver lab surgical simulation, mechanical testing, and/or other needs of the company.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities-Designing for manufacturability, inspectibility, and optimum cost

* Using Solidworks and 3D printing to generate prototype models to evaluate new design concepts
* Evaluating existing products and new designs with surgeons
* Generating comprehensive protocols for testing/analyzing the product

Expected Areas of Competence-Independent self-driver, self-learning with ability to think creatively and incorporate into design

* Hands-on mechanical experience such as assembling/building devices, cars, robots, etc.
* Familiarity with drafting standards and geometric differences and tolerancing
* Ability to effectively work within a team to expedite completion of critical project tasks with other functional groups
* Helping to identify customer requirements for a new product
* Ability to initiate and effectively conduct research in multiple sources in medical/scientific literature, industry, the internet to obtain relevant information for design input
* Ability to communicate professionally including concise, clear technical writing and presentations

Education/Experience Requirements-Must be actively enrolled in an academic program for the entire duration of the assignment

* Pursuit of B.S. in engineering discipline; Biomedical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering preferred
* GPA of 2.5+ preferred
