Description of Position

Hiring Rate: $781.00 per load hour beginning Fall 2017

The Health Information Management (HIM) Instructor provides quality training within a variety of instructor led HIM and related Allied Health courses using a variety of course delivery methods within the classroom and online instruction.

Terms of Teaching Assignment:

* Provide quality instruction within a variety of instructor led HIM and related Allied Health courses.
* Develop a course syllabus based on the approved college course outline and teach in accordance with the syllabus and college and departmental policies.
* Provide an effective environment for student learning.
* Evaluate student progress, provide frequent feedback to students, and refer students to appropriate college support services when needed;
* Assist in program and college accreditation processes.
* Participate in curriculum development including developing and reviewing program requirements, selecting teaching materials and textbooks.
* Prepare and participate in the Program Review process in accordance with the stated policy/procedures.
* Attend such meetings and workshops as may be necessary to obtain or renew certification or essential licensure requirements or satisfy accreditation requirements.
* Attend other meetings as required.
* Document the completion of three (3) hours per semester of professional development activities related to the discipline area and student learning.
* Promptly submit required rosters, grade reports, evaluations, and other academic requirements.
* Follow the same accepted standards of conduct as the full-time faculty as described in the employee code of conduct.
* Follow college policies and procedures.

* Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution or ability to acquire degree within one year.
* Must hold an AHIMA or AAPC coding credential such as CCA or CCS.
* Five years HIM related experience and current knowledge in the subject area.
* Skill in gathering, compiling, and presenting information in oral and/or written form.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with staff, community leaders, faculty, students, and the public.
* Skill working in a diverse multi-ethnic, multi-cultural population.
* Ability to work independently and as a member of a team in accomplishing tasks.
* Ability to analyze situations, develop solutions, and make independent decisions based on established guidelines.
* Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with College staff, faculty, administrators, and outside contractors.
* Proficiency in computer skills which include but are not limited to: MS Office, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel, and Outlook; may be required to learn other computer software applications related to department needs.
* Ability to travel in Northern Arizona.
* Commitment to professional development.

Preferred Skills & Abilities

* Master's degree in Health Information Technology or related field.
* RHIA or RHIT credential.
* Experience training, mentoring and advising students.
* One (1) year of instructional experience in a CAHIIM accredited Health Information Management program.
* Knowledge of instructional program development, planning, evaluation, and review with the ability to produce new, imaginative, or innovative solutions different from traditional approaches.
* Proficiency in instruction, curriculum design, program planning, counseling, accreditation, and experience in academic/internship coordination.
* Experience with course evaluation, student advising, and student remediation.
* Experience counseling students on College policies and procedures
* Experience with online course development and instruction.
* Canvas Course Learning Management System software.
