Job Description

Description of Position

Hiring Rate: $781.00 per load hour beginning Fall 2017

As an Adjunct Faculty member:

* Meet and teach assigned class(es) in accordance with course outlines, including specified textbooks.
* Develop a course syllabus based on the approved college outline.
* Attend such meetings and workshops as may be necessary to obtain or renew certification or essential licensure requirements. Attend other meetings as required.
* Promptly submit required rosters, grade reports, evaluations, and academic reports.
* Follow the same accepted standards of conduct as the full-time faculty as described in applicable administrative procedures which relate to satisfactory service and conduct becoming a faculty member.
* Document the completion of three (3) hours per semester of professional development activities related to the discipline area and student learning.

In addition:

* Provide theory, skills lab or clinical instruction; ensures implementation of the Arizona State Board of Nursing (AZBN) approved nursing assistant program curriculum;
* Follows AZBN rules and regulations for NA courses; reviews and updates curriculum to maintain compliance with AZBN standards, and maintains AZBN accreditation documentation.
* Program administrative duties include recommending program budget expenditures; scheduling of classes and part-time instructors; organizing classroom and clinical placements; maintaining records; and supervising, full-range of professional and college-related activities including student advising; curriculum development; professional growth; departmental and college-wide meetings, committees, and in-services; and community involvement.

Teaching assignment may be day or evening at any campus site.

A. BSN degree from an accredited program

B. Current registered nurse license that is active and in good standing under A.R.S. Title 32, Chapter 15 and provide documentation of a minimum of one year full-time or 1500 hours employment providing direct patient care as a registered nurse in any setting; AND

C. At a minimum, must possess one of the following (from Article 8, Rules of the Az. State Board of Nursing):

a. Successful completion of a three semester credit course on adult teaching and learning concepts offered by an accredited post-secondary educational institution, or

b. Completion of a 40 hour continuing education program in adult teaching and learning concepts that was awarded continuing education credit by an accredited organization, or

c. One year full-time or 1500 hours experience teaching adults as a faculty member or clinical educator, or

d. One year full time or 1500 hours experience supervising nursing assistants, either in addition to or concurrent with the one year of experience required in section (B) above.

D. Ability to interact effectively and professionally with other faculty, students and staff

E. Possess a high degree of integrity and commitment to comply with policies, procedures, regulations and approved curriculum

F. Must be organized, detail oriented and able to multi-task

G. Dedication and enthusiasm for the nursing profession and interest in nursing education

H. Ability to work and communicate effectively and respectfully with diverse students, staff, faculty and clinical site staff.

I. Ability to work independently and supervise others

J. Ability to perform and prioritize tasks with limited supervision

K. Current clinical knowledge and maintenance of clinical skills

L. Strong commitment to student success

Preferred Skills & Abilities

* Master's degree in related field
* Experience training, mentoring, and advising students
* Familiarity with Canvas Course Learning Management System
* Application of a variety of teaching methodologies
* Previous experience in curriculum development
* Experience with simulations
* Experience with web-based instructional methods
* Experience of teaching excellence at the college level
* Active participation in professional organizations
* Record of scholarly and/or creative activities
* Two years previous experience teaching in a nursing assistant training program
* One year work experience in a long term care facility
* Knowledge of instructional delivery, the elements of effective teaching and learning, and the principles of adult education
