Job Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic System Software Engineer for the system software team at the Xilinx headquarter s in San Jose. You will have the opportunity to work on all aspects of system software including development, verification and integration of embedded software running on our award-winning Zynq All Programmable SOC as well our MicroBlaze soft processors running in all Xilinx FPGAs.

You will be responsible for working with teams across geographies to design, implement and debug embedded bare metal software that runs directly on silicon and developing and upstreaming software that runs on Linux and other high-level operating systems. Your will also have the opportunity to become a leader in various open-source projects and on various collaborations with 3 rd parties.

Requirements Assessment and Prototyping

Builds understanding of the product requirements process and stakeholder perspectives (e.g., software marketing, software applications and test)

Demonstrates initiative in reviewing proposals and in contributing to potential implementation solutions
Executes with guidance in developing requirement prototypes or mock ups for low complexity features within assigned area of responsibility
Software Development

Builds a detailed understanding of users' needs and how they interact with the tool
Maintains a basic knowledge of broader tools team portfolio
Contributes to requirements definition and architectural design of tool solutions

Software Enablement (Tools & Methods)

Demonstrates effective usage of technical communication and posting tools (e.g. upstream mailing lists, Confluence, SharePoint)
Demonstrates and applies entry level competency of software development concepts and methods (e.g. upstream development methods, data structures, algorithms, graph theory, Agile methodology)
Demonstrates and applies entry level competency of software coding and scripting languages as required in area of responsibility (e.g. C, C , Java, Python, Tcl, Perl, VHDL, Verilog)
Demonstrates and applies entry level competency of software build, analysis and debug tools (e.g. Jenkins, Robot, Valgrind, Coverity)
Highly proficient in Linux and some proficiently in Windows development environments, as required in area of responsibility
Proficient with the use of at least one software defect tracking tool (Bugzilla, Jira)
Software Process Adaptation and Optimization

Builds solid understanding of Xilinx's approach to software design and testing
Actively monitors Xilinx and industry communications for evolving software methodology, practices, and changes in approach
Test Enablement (SW Tools & Methods)

Exercises full capabilities in in software languages and software development methods, including the writing of code
Resolves software bugs filed by the users

MSCS, MSCE or MSEE (or BS 2-4) years of experience

Proficiency in C and experience with other languages including C , Python, Tcl

Ability to develop code for internal and external peer review, and constructively and enthusiastically participate in code reviews.

Ability to effectively and efficiently use Linux to develop code and work with internal and external communities. Also an ability to help others work effectively with Linux and learn how to become strong members of the internal and external development community.

Direct experience hacking, bringing up, debugging and/or playing with embedded systems.

Capable of working in a dynamic, high pressure environment.

You will bring expertise in one or multiple of the following areas: Linux kernel, U-Boot, Yocto Project, QEMU, XEN, ARM TrustZone, Power Management and/or Android.
