WSP is currently initiating a search for a U.S. Immigration Legal Assistant.The role of U.S. Immigration Legal Assistant will be part of WSP USA's in-house legal team and will contribute to the legal compliance with WSP USA's immigration program. Reporting to WSP USA's US Immigration Counsel and working closely with WSP USA's HR team and the business, this position is responsible for assisting with the preparation and filing of employment-based immigration cases, including H1B, L-1, TN, E3, O1, PERM, EB1 Multi-national Manager, I-140, and AOS petitions and applications. This position is also responsible for working with various status reports and records relevant to immigration-related records.

This position could potentially work in either New York City, New York or Ephrata, Pennsylvania office.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Assist with preparation and filing of corporate immigration cases including: H1B, L-1, TN, E3, O1, PERM, EB1 Multi-national Manager, I-140, and AOS petitions and applications.
* Responsible for being a hands-on paralegal who will help prepare complex cases, as well as RFE and Audit responses.
* Assist with generating reports and help the Immigration team monitor employees' statuses, including monitoring expiration dates, filing dates, etc.
* Communicate clearly and effectively, and independently with relevant stakeholders on immigration benefits, government procedures, and case processing timelines.
* Work closely with HR and U.S. Immigration Counsel on compliance projects (i.e., I-9 audits, public access file maintenance, etc.), as needed.
* Escalate issues appropriately to US Immigration Counsel.
* Stay abreast of changes in immigration policy, practice, and law in order to ensure that NIV and IV processes are properly executed.
* Other duties as designated by supervisor.

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

* Knowledge of employment-based US immigration law, including 0-2+ years of experience handling NIV and IV applications as a paralegal with a private law firm or in an in-house setting preferred.
* Bachelor's degree with a strong academic background preferred.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, and communicate effectively with attorneys, HR officers and other corporate stakeholders, clients/immigration applicants, and governmental agencies.
* Ability to function independently and to exercise discretion and judgment in sensitive matters.
* Accuracy and attention to detail is a must.
* Great professional relationship skills, with experience functioning as a team player, self-starter, and independent thinker, as well as an ability to anticipate next steps and future issues.
* Must be able to think outside the box while staying within legal and ethical lines.
* Ability to multi-task in a diverse and fast-paced environment with a large and diverse group of people, including HR/Talent Management, Payroll, Global Mobility, hiring managers, and candidates from countries throughout the world as well as their families.
* Must have solid knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of case management database/CRM software preferred. Must be able to type on a keyboard.
* Must be comfortable working in open office environments, as needed, but be able to exercise discretion to move to a private location, if and when legal privilege or confidentiality becomes an issue.
* Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
* Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
