WSP is currently seeking a part-time Structural Engineer Intern for the Chicago, Illinois office for fall 2017. Qualified candidates must have completed a BSCE with an emphasis in Structural Engineering and be in process of of pursuing a Masters Degree in Civil Engineering with a focus in Structural Engineering.

The Intern is responsible for working on varied movable bridge projects under the direction of Senior Structural Engineers for projects in the Greater Chicago Area. Work includes design of projects for Illinois and local Chicago clients (IDOT, Illinois, CDOT, etc.).

Typical projects include:
* Structural design of bridges and transportation type facilities
Daily tasks include assistance in preparation and development of structural design documents. Assistant Structural Engineer duties include:
* Structural drawing design and development of drawings, calculations and specifications for rehabilitation and new construction of bridges and transportation type facilities
* Coordination between various disciplines with internal meetings
* This position may perform structural bridge inspections
This position offers the ability to work on challenging small to large scale transportation related projects within the Greater Chicago Area, exposure to a multicultural and highly technical staff, as well as the ability to grow within a large organization.
Job Requirements
Education/Experience Required:
* BS in Civil Engineering with a focus on structural engineering
* MS in Civil Engineering (have or currently be enrolled) with a focus on structural engineering
* Previous civil/structural internship experience is preferred;
* Understanding of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications is preferred;
* Knowledge of construction drawing standards;
* Proficiency and understanding using STAAD, SAP or similar structural design software;
* Proficiency with Microstation or AutoCAD is required;
* MS Project and MS Office Suite including PowerPoint;
* Excellent communication and writing skills;
* Attention to detail and highly organized;
* Self-starter, able to work independently and able to multi-task;
* Self-motivator to work independently or as part of a team

* Minimum 20 hours per week
* Days and times are flexible during normal business hours Monday - Friday, 7:30 - 5:30
