Summary and Purpose Statement

Our organization is seeking a highly qualified Process Safety Specialist to be a member of our Salt Lake City, Utah team. Reporting to the Manager of Process Safety, the primary responsibility of the Specialist is to oversee and coordinate the Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Plan (RMP) programs, to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and RMP regulations. In addition, this Specialist will be facilitating Process Hazard Analysis at Williams’ facilities, as well as, providing technical guidance and expertise on the program.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Facilitating and overseeing Process Hazard Analyses for identification and mitigation of physical risks associated with Williams facilities.  The primary tool will be Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP)
  • Reviewing and improving Williams’s process safety programs, including benchmarking against the industry.
  • Monitoring compliance and consistency with regulatory requirements across Operating Areas per OSHA PSM.
  • Providing guidance on interpreting process safety regulations and impacts.
  • Playing a key role in the enhancement of the Williams Integrity Management System relating to PSM/RMP elements.
  • Providing quality assurance function on the appropriateness of recommendations developed by PHA Teams, resultant Action Items, and adequate resolution of Action Items.
  • Contributing to development and implementation of improvements to PSM risk management tools including HAZOP, Occupied Building Risk Assessment, Layer of Protection Analysis, Process Safety Metrics, etc.
  • Providing guidance to Operating Areas on development of Process Safety Information; piping & instrumentation diagrams, equipment files, cause & effect diagrams, process flow diagrams, relief system design & design basis, plot plans, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Sciences, Engineering, Safety Management or related technical field
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Process Safety Management required
  • Have 8-12 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, but still acquiring higher level knowledge and capabilities.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of OSHA Process Safety Management required.
  • Demonstrated competency in reading and understanding P&IDs required.
  • Significant experience as a facilitator of PHA/HAZOP Teams required
  • PHA (HAZOP) facilitator certification from an industry recognized organization preferred


Preferred Qualifications

  • LOPA facilitator certification from an industry recognized organization
