Summary and Purpose

Our organization is seeking a highly skilled Operations Technician II to be a member of our Olympia, Washington area, and will report to the Williams’ Tumwater Compressor Station. Reporting to the Manager of Operations, the primary purpose of the Operations Technician is to be responsible for the safe day-to-day operations and maintenance of the Olympia, Washington District.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Willingness to adopt a “Safety Trumps All” workplace safety culture, and place safety as the first priority.
  • Perform preventive pipeline and compressor station maintenance as well as other tasks assigned to your work location.
  • Responsible for the safe handling of natural gas while performing maintenance related to Turbine Compression, Meter Stations, Regulation Stations, and all related Subsystems as required.  
  • Responsible for the reliability and integrity of facilities assigned to your mini district, as well as, Corrosion Control and Right-of-Way maintenance.
  • Interface with technical services, government agencies, emergency planning committees, emergency responders, landowners, contractors, etc...
  • Work after hours, on-call rotation, nights, and weekend shifts
  • Operate and maintain meter stations, pipeline facilities, corrosion control, and right-of-way maintenance
  • Ensure compliance with the federal industry regulators such as the Department of Transportation (DOT), Occupational Health and Safety Association (OSHA) and others.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot all related subsystems which include:  starting, stopping, safety shutdowns, and combustion controls
  • Handle facility encroachment activities including pipe location, excavation, and inspection resulting from one-call notifications and/or direct calls.
  • Completes structured training program designed to provide interdisciplinary experience and to build strengths in areas that match career aspirations and needs of the Company
  • Perform public education activities (present form presentations, attend community meetings, etc.…)


Minimum Qualifications 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of one (1) year operations experience within natural gas industry.
  • Ability to wear safety gear, protective equipment, gloves, uniforms and other articles of safety clothing or gear as required by OSHA,DOT, and/or state and local regulatory agencies.
  • Possess a valid state driver’s license
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to interact with a variety of internal and external customers
  • Expect time commitments, activities, and issues to be outside the traditional district geographical boundaries.
  • Demonstrate a basic knowledge of general computer applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.), with the ability to learn company specific software programs.
  • Be willing and able to work after hours, on-call rotations, nights, and weekend shifts. This may require working holidays.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work in a team setting and as an individual with minimal supervision
  • Be able to work in environmental extremes while operating hand and power tools, climbing ladders, and two-way radios
  • Be able to stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop, and squat for long periods of time


Preferred Qualifications 

  • Associates or 2 year Technical Degree in Mechanics, Electronics, or related field
  • Two (2) years of Operations experience within the natural gas industry.


Physical Requirements and Environmental Working Conditions:

  • Works indoors and outdoors in and around industrial and electrical equipment.
  • Works in temperature extremes due to weather conditions and operating equipment.
  • Uses physical force to lift, push, pull and hold equipment and tools that could weigh up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Climbs and works at various heights and may work in a standing, sitting, lying down, crouched or kneeling position.
  • Routinely reacts to visual, aural and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work.
