Technical Design Manager -- West Elm

The Technical Design Manager, Furniture will oversee the development in the furniture category. This person will own deliverables of each category and is responsible for keeping the team and cross-functional partners on track to meet necessary deadlines. The ideal candidate is a team oriented leader with the ability to build strong relationships both within and outside of the technical design team, particularly in design and sourcing/production. As a manager of others, this role will also be responsible for career development of a direct report, and will partner with the Technical Design Director to ensure all team members are developing in key areas. As our categories and business interests grow, this role will need to operate independently in the best interest of the brand while keeping all stakeholders updated, including members of the senior leadership team.


Essential Functions:
* Review, enter, and distribute specs.
* Development comments and tracking.
* Coordinate with Design to issue sample comments through final approval.
* Collaborate cross functionally to ensure the team remains on the brand calendar.
* Attend pre-sketch and sketch review to build an understanding of development inspiration, concept, and final product for Spec Out/Development.
* Attend sourcing allocation walk through for the season collaborate with Sourcing and Design on product placement.
* Track Spec Deadline progress in PLM to ensure the calendar spec deadline will be met. Requires experience dealing with Cross Functional Partners to ensure Workflow is met.
* Partner with Technical Design Assistants to Generate Specs in PLM by:
-Reviewing Design detail page to confirm information provided is accurate.
-Generate and Pass Off Specs Created by Design to WSI and Vendors for development samples.
-Requesting Samples in PLM
* Manage Team as they follow development progress coordinating with Vendors and WSI Offices to execute the first samples.
* Update the design and sourcing team of first sample submission progress 2 weeks after Spec Out.
* Escalate outstanding approvals to Sourcing as these items may be late for the season.

* 5+ years of Product Development
* Bachelor's Degree
* 1+ year of management experience with a proven track record of developing direct reports
* Excellent communication skills and ability to lead Cross Functional Meetings.
* Ability to think outside the box to lead an exceptional team
* Have experience working communicating with all levels.
* PLM or Web PDM Experience a must
* Microsoft Programs
* Illustrator and Photo Shop a Plus!
