JOB DESCRIPTION

About the Role

Develop and execute a technical design process and documentation that insures Williams-Sonoma Home Furniture items incorporate "best practices" in design, construction and manufacturing; thereby guaranteeing furniture reliability and customer loyalty

You're excited about this opportunity because you will...

* Accountable for the accomplishment of technical design specifications using AutoCAD Inventor (3D modeling), procedures, practices etc. for all new furniture products within the overall business targets of cost, schedule, performance and aesthetics.
* Follow WSI product development process routines/model to consistently carry out these required tasks across all furniture items. This review process will:

* Insure all furniture designs have complete technical specification including CADs that are sent to vendors and/or agents.
* Insure all furniture designs can be manufactured in a cost efficient process.
* Insure that the construction of any furniture design will meet the minimum requirements as stated under WSI testing protocols.
* Insure that technical specification given to our furniture vendors/agents contain detailed technical guidance in all key production areas; such as, raw material selection, acceptable workmanship, joinery, finishing and hardware solution.
* Insure that all furniture quality reviews through the product development cycle are well documented.
* Insure that assembly instructions have proper content in regards to wording and graphics for high risk products.
* Develop a close working relationship with furniture product developers, sourcing managers, testing managers, packaging engineers, buying agents and manufacturers.
* Develop consistent methods of communication to keep each of these groups informed as to the furniture product requirements.
* Position requires international and domestic travel 3-4 times a year.

Additional Responsibilities:

* Call out opportunities for improving design, manufacturing efficiency and cost.
* Troubleshoot design and/or manufacturing problems as they arise.
* Execute product enhancements on existing products by re-engineering core items.

We're excited about you because...

* BA/BS or associate degree or equivalent experience.
* Minimum 5-7 years of product development experience.
* Minimum of 5 years using CAD software. Experience with Autodesk Inventor is an asset.
* Minimum 4 years in furniture technical development and/or engineering. Emphasis on wood furniture products.
* Experience with Solid Works
* Experience and knowledge of furniture finishes is an asset.
* Minimum 4 years in furniture manufacturing. Overseas manufacturing experience is a plus.
* Solid understanding of residential furniture technical design, construction and finishing. Understanding of furniture packaging is a plus.
