Position Summary

We are seeking an energetic and self-motivated Tax Manager to join our Tax Department. This position will report to the SALT Director and will be responsible for managing the development and implementation of indirect tax processes which affect compliance and audits. This position would play an integral role to support the company's growth in providing tax guidance for current and future projects.

Specific Responsibilities

* Identify, develop, design and implement processes and methodologies to address gaps in tax compliance and mitigate future audit risk in support of day-to-day retail company operations
* Enhance, improve and update existing processes to increase efficiency, streamline team workload and reduce manual processes based on understanding of current business processes
* Work with other internal project teams to define tax requirements, communicate needs to technology teams, monitor progress and validate implementation of changes
* Manage and coordinate with tax team to establish strategic data extraction and gathering plans, understand and develop meaningful reporting needs
* Assist Senior Manager and SALT Director with developing and/or refining business objectives, project scope, and timeline for tax implications for strategic business ventures under consideration
* Analyze reports and present complex data with in-depth detail to support recommendations for future tax systems; anticipate questions and responding to questions logically and concisely.
* Establish, review and test new data files, formats and validations to provide rules and guidance to third-party tax return preparers; analyze impact of information to company on a broader scale based on understanding of various systems
* Manage various tax projects to include planning, budgeting, developing timelines, interacting with internal and external resources, executing, and ensuring that all project parameters are met.
* Prepare or review and approve changes to existing tax compliance issues (e.g. registrations, template updates, notices) to ensure the company is compliant on a timely basis and analyze potential impact to audits and balance sheet reconciliation
* Manage and oversee indirect tax compliance and relationships with third-party tax service providers
* Review and approve monthly use tax accruals, journal entries and related supporting documentation
* Manage and maintain SOX compliance, desktop procedures and key controls
* Provide guidance and lead indirect tax team to improve efficiency and identify, research and resolve problems
* Manage outsourced property tax and gross receipt tax compliance
* Support the full lifecycle of ad-hoc special projects from inception to completion

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting required
* 5+ years of experience working in corporate tax or Finance department
* Experience in sales/use tax preparation, tax research within a retail organization
* CPA license or CMI designation required
* Advanced computer stills and advanced Excel proficiency required
* Excellent project management and strong analytical ability to identify, provide solutions and resolve problems
* High energy, high motivation and strong ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
* Works well under pressure and adapts to changing priorities
* Detail oriented, has ability to plan and is extremely organized
* Efficiently prioritizes to accomplish and manage multiple projects and/or deliverables and meet tight deadlines effectively
* Independent thinker, self-starter and works with limited guidance
* Ability to lead, motivate and develop staff
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
