JOB DESCRIPTION

Williams-Sonoma, Inc. is seeking a proven professional with 5 years or more Customs experience working for an importer of retail merchandise. You will part of a dynamic team that is responsible for determining the Customs' tariff numbers, duty rates and country of origin for a complex and broad product line.

The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years' experience in classification of a broad range of commodities including textiles and food with proven ability to maintain accuracy and due diligence. Additional skills include an understanding of reasonable care standards as defined by US and Canadian Customs and working knowledge of 19 CFR (Customs Duties).

The performance expectations of this position include; acting with a sense of urgency while maintaining high compliance and due diligence, analyzing and determining root causes, thinking and planning strategically, elevating operational issues effectively and fostering positive communication between internal and external business partners.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILTIES:

* Accurately determine the tariff numbers, country of origin, Customs descriptions and eligibility for special trade programs for products that import into multiple countries by interpreting applicable rules and regulations.
* Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to promote compliance with federal agency requirements and expedite the clearance of product through Customs and other regulatory agencies
* Determine opportunities for duty reductions, i.e. tariff engineering, preferential duty treatment. Prepare and submit customs binding ruling requests.
* Maintain customs records to ensure company adherence to Customs rules and regulations and demonstrate reasonable care.
* Keep abreast of new rules and regulations.
* Work closely with Customs Brokers to ensure timely and accurate Customs clearance.
* Provide training to business partners.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

QUALIFICATIONS:

* A BS/BA degree in International Trade/Business or equivalent, preferred
* 5 years or more experience working in the Customs organization of an US Importer with at least 3 years' experience in classification.
* Working knowledge of 19CFR
* Licensed Customs Broker preferred
* Expert with MS Access, Excel and Word
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Strong analytical and problem solving skills
