The west elm innovation team works to progress the overall brand and customer experience through the application of new technologies and progressive digital thinking. We provide leadership, knowledge, and an expertise of the current digital landscape to the entire brand in an effort to solve challenging business problems, identify new revenue-driving digital opportunities and move the brand forward from a digital perspective.

Our team acts as an agile internal digital product lab, prototyping and testing new ideas to determine their efficacy and ability to impact the business, with the end goal of bringing the best of these ideas into a production environment to be utilized by our customers or internal partners.

The successful candidate for this role will impact west elm through technical and digital leadership and be a vital bridge between the greater technical team in San Francisco and the west elm business and technical teams that reside in Brooklyn. This role brings value to the brand by providing an internal forward thinking resource that can help us stay on top of the latest and greatest technology, frameworks and digital capabilities.

Essential Functions:
* Strong full stack experience with emphasis on front-end development
* Capable of leading engineering teams to the successful completion of small and large projects that are both on time and within scope and will have fun doing it.
* Act as the main technical resource and developer for the innovation team
* Seamlessly interface with stakeholders in Brooklyn, technical counterparts in San Francisco and remote developers located both locally and overseas.
* Provide technical guidance, knowledge of internal systems capabilities/limitations, digital strategy and act as a full stack developer resource in an effort to move forward a variety of innovation projects from ideation to prototype to production.


* Are solutions oriented with an entrepreneurial attitude
* Are interested in leading and growing an engineering team
* Are able to communicate successfully across a variety of technical and non-technical stakeholders.
* Are willing and able to get their hands dirty through the actual development of a variety of ongoing projects.

* Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience in Computer Science or related field.
* 7+ years experience in an engineering role, spanning work in both front and back end development.
* Ability to seamlessly work with and lead a global team of contractor developers.
* Ability to work within, and apply, agile development practices like SCRUM, Kanban, etc
* Understanding of, and experience with, nimble prototyping philosophies.
* Experience overseeing engineering efforts that range from prototypes to large scale builds will be paramount
* A thoughtful, transparent, and positive approach to work and colleague interactions.
* A strong desire to continue learning and sharing new ideas in an effort to inspire yourself and the surrounding team.
* Desire to experiment and use data to drive decisions
* Strong attention to detail in an effort to give end users an incredible experience
