Assistant Director, Veterans Outreach And Recruitment

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Continuing Studies and working closely with the directors of admissions for both traditional undergraduate and graduate and continuing studies, the Assistant Director engages veterans and military-connected students in all phases of the recruitment process and provides information and support to advance the university's recruitment and retention efforts for both undergraduate and graduate programs. Background check required.

Responsibilities And Related Duties

Serve as a first contact and primary representative of Whitworth to veterans and military connected students, communicating an in-depth knowledge of the university’s mission, academic and co-curricular programs, and other distinctives throughout the recruitment process.
Represent Whitworth at recruitment functions including college and business fairs, conventions, military transition/education center events and other venues where the opportunities for student recruitment. Recruitment will involve regular travel in the greater Spokane area and occasional travel throughout the Pacific Northwest, including occasional evening and weekend commitments.
Strengthen Whitworth’s connections and presence at Fairchild AFB, the Spokane Veterans Center, and The Spokane VA Medical Center to engage with veterans/military connected prospective students.
Work with the Transition Assistance Program Manager and Director of Educational Services at Fairchild AFB to provide training and transition workshops promoting educational options at Whitworth.
Work with admissions-related marketing staff to develop and implement an integrated marketing plan to recruit veterans and military connected prospective students.
Manage a recruitment plan for veterans and military connected prospective students, including maintaining historical records of travel, key organizational contacts, enrollment trends, and outcomes.
Engage prospective students in ongoing communication through face-to-face meetings, email, written correspondence, phone calls, texting and social media, in conjunction with admissions CRM communication management. Maintain a strong customer service orientation with timely responses to inquiries.
Serve as a liaison to connect prospective students with key university offices such as veterans support services, financial aid, housing, intercultural student center, academic departments, athletics, the registrar, etc.
Facilitate application progression and timely communication of admissions decisions based on admissions’ offices policies and procedures.
Work closely with campus admissions offices as appropriate.
Work with the Campus Visit Coordinator to develop and implement campus visit events for veterans and military connected students.
Collaborate with Whitworth’s Vet Corps members to ensure excellent support and service to veterans and military connected students enrolled at Whitworth.
Collaborate with the Financial Aid Office to support the awarding of veterans and military benefits as well as other financial aid resources.
Collaborate with the Office of the Registrar to monitor and report enrollment of veterans and to establish eligibility for veterans and military related benefits
Seek professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in recruitment and retention of undergraduate students.
Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills And Abilities:

Bachelor’s degree required.
Military service with an honorable discharge required.
Demonstrated desire to work with veterans and military connected prospective students.
Demonstrated awareness and commitment to effectively establishing positive relationships and across multiple dimensions of diversity including, but not limited to race, gender, physical limitations, class or religious perspectives are required.
Excellent public speaking and written communication skills.
Availability and commitment to travel throughout the year.
Demonstrated ability to work with Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint; experience working with a CRM (Customer Relationship Management) or relational database program preferred.
Demonstrated ability to take initiative, exercise independent judgment, prioritize work and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
Demonstrated organizational and planning skills.
A high level of personal integrity and professionalism, including the ability to work with confidential information.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a part of a team.
The physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs. as well as bending, stooping and kneeling for the purposes of setting up and taking down admissions displays.
Requires valid driver’s license and use of personal auto.
