Job Description

Security Officer

30 hours/week

Reporting to the director, security services, the security officer performs security and related duties on campus. Background check and post offer physical required.

Responsibilities And Related Duties:

1. Perform general duty security work to protect life and property including but not limited to routine building checks for fire, trespassers, property damage, safety hazards and building mechanical equipment operations.
2. Conduct investigations related to incidents including theft, vandalism, vehicle and personal injury accidents.
3. Prepare thorough and accurate computer generated activity logs and reports.
4. Establish and maintain working relationships with faculty, staff, students.
5. Assist County or State officials in emergencies and with non-emergency investigations.
6. Respond to medical and non-medical emergencies and perform basic first aid as needed.
7. Direct and regulate traffic and parking and enforce Whitworth’s vehicle policies.
8. Perform related administrative support functions as required.
9. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills And Abilities:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• One-year security and investigative experience required.
• Law enforcement experience preferred.
• Personal commitment to the Christian faith and to the integration of faith and learning.
• Available and have the ability to engage in security functions that include working various shifts (days, evenings, nights) including weekends and holidays, walking on foot patrol, climbing stairs and physically checking the doors and windows of buildings to ensure that they are secure.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of this position:
o patrol the campus on foot, on bicycle, and by motor vehicle.
o perform other required duties in all weather conditions with ability to withstand frequent and prolonged exposure to extreme weather conditions.
o moderate lifting (not more than 50 lbs.) may occasionally be required.
o walk for extended periods of time and sprint short distances (up to 50 yards) without undue discomfort or ill effects.
• Computer proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel and Outlook), including the ability to prepare required reports and logs on the Maxient program and Microsoft Word.
• Monitor and operate the RAVE and INFORMACAST emergency broad casting systems.
• Basic first-aid and CPR/AED certification, or obtaining that certification within one year after employment, is required.
• A thorough understanding and strong commitment to positive customer service.
• Demonstrated maturity in dealing with students, staff and general public.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with faculty, staff and students.
• Ability to communicate with sensitivity and tact and maintain confidentiality.
• Demonstrated awareness and commitment to effectively establishing relationships and positive. communications across multiple dimensions of diversity including, but not limited to race, gender, physical limitations, class or religious perspectives.
