Job Description

Position: Human Resources Coordinator

School: Wethersfield District Office

Reports To: Director, Human Resources

Start Date: August/September 2019

Compensation: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour work (based on experience & qualifications)

Benefits: Not eligible for health or retirement benefits; limited paid time away from work benefits available

Hours of Work: 15 hours/week, 52 weeks per year

We have an immediate opening for a Human Resources Coordinator working in our district's central administrative office. We are looking for a motivated and dedicated professional with excellent communication, analytical, technology and teaming skills to fill this critical opening. The Human Resources Coordinator will be responsible for working both independently and part of a small HR team to assist with the management of a myriad of daily operational issues facilitated by the HR team. While each day is unique, the Coordinator will be involved in matters pertaining (but not limited) to attendance management, HR systems management and maintenance, benefit administration, records retention / records management, employee communications, substitute worker administration, and process enhancements.

Job responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

* Manage employee attendance administration as it relates to employee submissions, internal recordkeeping, and coordination with Payroll;
* Assist with various elements of the hiring process for both certified and non-certified roles, including candidate employment paperwork;
* Assist with the creation of various employee communications (individual and mass), including periodic newsletter content;
* Manage employment verification process;
* Manage new employee fingerprinting process and recordkeeping;
* Facilitate HR records retention / file maintenance for employee personnel files and related records;
* Support updates to, and maintenance of, HR website;
* Support HR team with leave administration communications, documentation requests, and leave status tracking;
* Support activity that involves employee hires, job changes, stipended assignments, transfers, retirements and separations;
* Get involved in various process improvement initiatives that may include job description creation, technology transition, form completion automation,
* Support communication with Business Office team on all matters having a pay impact;
* Assist with management of HR website content and make recommendations for new content development;
* Create reports and summaries on various key HR initiatives;
* Support paid-time-off and absence management practices;
* Support implementation of new technology and automation improvements;
* Support grievance tracking and negotiations preparation, as requested;
* Provide support for student teacher/intern in-district work assignments;
* Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, Human Resources.


* Must possess a minimum of an Associates' Degree in Human Resource Management, Industrial/Labor Relations, or a related field [Bachelors' Degree preferred but not required];
* Must possess a minimum of two (2) years' experience working in a Human Resources, or related, role;
* Must possess strong collaboration and communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with a broad spectrum of district employees, Board of Education and members of the community;
* Must possess analytical, critical thinking, problem solving and report writing skills, and be comfortable working with and manipulating data;
* Must demonstrate prior experience and comfort working independently on key HR issues; must be able to work independently and with moderate daily guidance;
* Must be intellectually curious;
* Must possess a strong work ethic and ability to drive projects and tasks to completion.

Compensation & Benefits:

* This is a 12-month non-union, non-exempt position;
* Pay rate is $18.00 - $22.00 per hour worked, based on experience/qualifications of the chosen candidate;
* Hours of work: 3 hours per day, 5 days per week (specific hours negotiable);
* Position is not eligible for health care, life, disability, retirement, personal day, or holiday benefits;
* Limited paid sick days are available.
