JOB TITLE: Metallurgical Engineering Internship


DEPARTMENT: Generation Reliability- Southland Service Center

LOCATION: Kansas City, MO

PAY RANGE: $19.00-22.00 per hour

Intern Position for Full Time Summer 2020

Flexible hours between Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

We provide a number of intern events throughout the summer to burn some extra energy, including volunteer events, power plant tours, lunch and learns, and more

Intern Description:

Interns learn and perform metallurgical examinations and analysis, including sectioning, grinding, polishing, and etching, as well as photomicrograph samples of failures at the Metallurgical Lab, as directed by the staff metallurgical engineer. Potential field assignments for the interns may include attending forced and planned outages to work directly with boiler/central engineers to inspect boilers, piping, etc. Interns develop skills to plan, organize and perform inspections, as well as provide recommendations for improvements and follow-up of repairs and overhauls. We seek highly motivated candidates with excellent communication skills.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Open to students who are pursuing a degree in Engineering, specific focus Metallurgical required.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:

* Excellent communication, public relations, teamwork and technical skills.
* Strong math, business/technical writing and technical reading skills.
* Skills are necessary in planning, organizing, oral and written communication, prioritizing and team building.
* Financial Analysis skills a plus

Working Conditions:

Mostly office conditions at various locations with continuous attention to performing work of high quality and accuracy in a safe manner. Occasional field observations will involve work outdoors within driving distance of work location.
